Journey to our nearest star would take 'centuries'
US agency aims to start journey within a century
Current 'chemical' rockets could not power the journey
After 30 years, the Voyager I probe, the furthest-travelled object man has ever sent into the universe, has travelled one per cent of the distance to Proxima Centauri, our nearest star. If the human race ever travel to other star systems, the journey could take generations.

Scientists, however, are still optimistic: particularly DARPA, the US military's 'mad scientist' division - who aim to foster interstellar travel within 100 years.
With ideas such as light-speed travel or 'suspended animation' still a glint in a science fiction writer's eye, reproduction in space might be essential, DARPA's 100 Year Starship conference heard this week. But scientists are not sure it is even possible.

errr I am just a proponent of good sex.... in space ...small spaces and large spaces me thinks *(:>*

As for Columbus it is all about mislabeling his accomplishments... but you know that *(:>*

One might be prone to concede that sex that is out of this world might just be really good so to speak

Pretty lame article. We've been talking about simulating gravity by spinning the spaceship (or space station) for many decades. Long-term radiation in deep space might be a problem, but not an insurmountable one.

Of course there are lots of good SF stories about life aboard multi-generation starships. One was a novel where all knowledge of the mission disappeared, and a tribal society emerged—can't recall which that was at the moment—maybe more than one.

And I was hoppin' mad when the current international space station turned out to be the floating junk heap/Skylab -with-a-few-additions that it is and not a spinning wheel-style space station with built-in artificial gravity.
