iPhone 2g battery replacement?

So, it looks like I'll be coming into an 4gb iPhone 2g soon. It works great, but only has about a half hour battery life. I'm looking at OWC, Rapid Repair, and Milliamp's battery replacement services. Anybody care to share their experiences? Everywhere costs about $60. Does anyone know a place that'll do it on the cheap? I'm leaning towards OWC, sine they're trustworthy, but would like to hear some experiences.

I'm seriously considering replacing (soldering!) it myself, or just breaking down and buying a 3g, but I need this phone to work for at least a few more months.

Thanks!

No place do it cheap--if you search the forum for my name and iphone, I asked about this maybe a month ago. Only cheap way is to do it yourself. Maybe can get it down to $50 or so, via Ebay.....

Thanks, anonymouse, I STF but didn't see your post. I've got a friend that's adept at soldering. I might pick up a battery for $5 and take my chances.

I have an original iphone and I've been thinking of replacing the battery too. I found this place but have not tried it yet.

Looks like they will sell you the battery for $20 or you can have them do it for $49 which includes 2 way shipping.

Did you check your local craigslist ? iPhone repair is a cottage industry around here.
Going rate seems to be about $50 to $60 for a battery replacement.

The problem is that it seems silly to put $50-$60 into a first-gen iphone. And from what I've read, they're a bear to open.

I checked Craigslist and came up empty. I'm thinking of just doing it myself...
