So I asked Ebay if I may use Google Checkout as a form of payment for my auction. The response I got in email follows:

Dear eBay member,

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to whether you can use Google
Checkout as a form of payment.

It doesn't violate the Safe Payment policy it's permitted. However, if
still you are having any trouble regarding this then I would request you
to write back to us so that we can do further investigations and assist
you.

It has been a pleasure assisting you. Thank you for choosing eBay.

Sincerely,
Andy Pa.

It's like dealing with the IRS. It's nothing but conflicting information.

I think I have some spam here that was written by him. The style is unmistakable.

that was my thought--who the hell is this guy? But I used Ebay's web page for submitting a question on allowable forms of payment, so I know it went straight to Ebay.

Well, they've gone a different route.

[base.google.com]

I wonder if it will be as effective as Ebay. You can do Ebay like things, but you can also do other things.

It looks like base.google.com is more like CraigsList than ebay. I will have to spend more time looking at it. If people can easily pay securely online with a temp credit card number, it could be the end of ebay. Yay!

Regardless of what Andy Pa. said, you can't use Google Checkout with eBay. It violates the Acceptable Payments Policy.

Not unless they can get the the traffic up on their site. None of the other auction sites have come anywhere close to eBay.

I agree, but they are Google.

I don't mind having two evil companies duke it out.

Good point, but then you don't get the lesser of two evils, you get the greater of two evils.

On the other hand, for at least awhile you have two evils paying more attention to the fight and less attention to pissing their customers off.

Usually, during that period, the customers win. I say, take what you can get. Maybe Ebay will back down on a bunch of their evil, money-grubbing crap for awhile.
