Changed settings in OSX Internet GRRRRRR

I have not used my iBook on the Internet since last April (emails dated 4/05 altho I thought I had used it for email in Sept 05)

Today I wanted to download some Mac software so...I fired up the iBook and I could not get on the Net...all the setting were screwy. The only thing I have used that iBook for in all this time has been DVDs.

I tried resetting the settings and still could not get on and will have to try again when I have a half a day to get the right info entered. Trial and error since the right info didn't work.

How do I erase the bad info? when I go to assistant I put in the correct info put the "connect" uses the screwed up info. Oh, I hate 10 ! ! ! why would Ripper and Toast do this? the only programs used on that computer. what else could have done it when it worked fine months ago and now doesn't?

I finally restarted in 9.2.2 and got on the Net. That is when I discovered the strange face of IE.

9.2.2 connects fine. But would not access the web page I wanted (After Dawn) so I got on the PC and downloaded to my Fat32 HD.Hope this will preserve the Mac download integrity.

There are times I would like to use the mac on the Net but I may have to experiment and just download to the Fat23 HD and just use that iBook for DVD only.

OK - start from the beginning

You are on dial-up correct ?
OS X version ? 10.2 or 10.3 ?

Been a while since I had to mess with dial up but I think there are a few
others here that are also dial up.

Open up the System Preference > Network and check your settings against
the computer you are posting from

Yes, dialup. The settings on another computer look the same...It will take me an afternoon and right now I only have time to bitch!!!

I'm going to check iBook #3 and see if I have gotten on the Net with it and see what happens but right now I'm downing Irish Creme and who cares about computers......winking smiley

Let's see . . . you don't use the computer for six months and then you "bytch" about it when it doesn't perform . . . was it plugged into an electrical outlet the whole time??????

Why so neglectful?????
