WholeFood and Sprout (We are in So Cal) are the only markets recommended to us. The prices on those items are high there.

SoCal for now.

Quinoa at CostCo. Organic, 4lbs perhaps $8. Normally at least $4/lb elsewhere.

Kap,

I usually get it at Wholefoods. I don't use it very often, so the cost isn't an issue for me. But, if it's something you eat regularly, lots of places sell it online. If you like a particular brand, then see if it's available online at discounted prices. There are a few particular snack foods that I buy online directly from the manufacturer because it's much more costly to buy locally.

Robert,
I am switching from eating rice to eating quinoa and ameranthus due to the better nutrient contents in those food items.

Kap,

Good choice. I love quinoa. Although I usually eat it plain, every once in a while I make a chicken or seafood Paella and use quinoa instead of rice. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! My preferred brand for now is Ancient Harvest. I usually grab their traditional quinoa. Very easy to make, especially if you use the microwave.

Have you checked Amazon? Gluten Free items tend to much more costly than "standard" grains.

Bought a 16 oz box of Quinoa at TJ's for about $4. A buddy thinks Costco no longer sells Quinoa. As for Ameranthus, other markets suggested me to check out Whole Food.

We "pre" make quinoa and add it too cold cereal, oatmeal, pbj, yog and fruit, blah blah blah.

Quinoa seems to be as common as rice here in the heartland, I think it is even in multiple places in plain old Kroger. I've tried to add it to my diet since I've gone vegetarian, but I can't stand the stuff. I think it is more of a texture issue than taste for me, but it doesn't matter if it is a stand alone side or a component in a dish, I don't find it palatable. By the way is it pronounced kin-WHA or kwin-OH-ah or somethng else?
