I want to rec'd some stuff off our FiOS DVR to my Mac to save before the old one goes back for exchange.
Using a Canopus 110, which app would give me the best result?
IMHD, QT, VLC, ffMpegX or some other.........

Digital > Analog > Digital...

Blech!

But iMovie HD is the right tool. Its export options should be sufficient.

I used a Canopus CODEC to S-video to FW to the Mac running iMHD.

IMHD allows for simple "export" to DVD via iDVD.
