Seagate advanced replacement worth it?

Anyone try Seagate's advanced replacement service for $10? I had a drive fail, warranty goes through June. Was thinking of doing it.
"Have replacement product sent to you faster with approved return packaging and prepaid return shipping label. "

So it means one gets shipped out now, 2nd day air, includes return packaging (I have some HD boxes somewhere) and a return shipping label. Seems like shipping is going to be at least $5-6.

Yes. Advanced shipping and they pay for shipping back.

Sounds like it would be worth it to me.

'aight, that's what I thought but it seemed like something actually useful so I thought there must be a catch. What's funny is normally I'd know exactly where a box is, but since a couple rooms got cleared out and stuff got piled in the garage, I wouldn't be able to find them very easily.

Blah, fine print not in the ordering process, but in the confirmation email:
"2. Seagate will ship your replacement drive within 3 business days based on inventory availability."

So 2nd day air, but they may wait 3 days to ship it. Oh well, should still be here by next Friday.

If you are in a hurry for it - then yes, sooner is better. If not, then cheaper is better...

BTW, the advance placement is pretty darned fast...

On the bright side... if they're out of the exact model, you might get an upgrade to the current [larger] equivalent drive in the lineup... they upped me to 2TB from 500GB without breaking a sweat, after taking a couple of days to search things out. Tip: call them and ask them to check availability of replacement drives, and note to call you back if/when they realize they don't have the exact replacement... when they call back, you use the current lineup, a la AAPL, explanation.

Sometimes it is what it is...
and then there's times when it's really better.

If you didn't do advanced replacement they'd wait until they received your drive with your packing materials which they may determine were inadequate and caused damage to the drive in transit thereby voiding the warranty. And you'd have no drive in the meanwhile as they decided this.

It's a great program and I'm surprised more suppliers don't do this.
