Panasonic VIERA 60" 1080p Plasma HDTV: $900

If anyone happens to be looking for a big plasma TV that has pretty fair reviews - I noticed this deal on dealmac (Best Buy):

[dealmac.com]

It doesn't do 3D and it doesn't have wifi, so if those are features you are looking for, this set probably wouldn't suit your needs. It's also not the most elegant looking big screen TV, so if high style is an important consideration for you, then this probably wouldn't be the set for you. (Not that it looks way clunky - just that there are other sets that have a "sleeker" look to them.)

Panasonic Plasma TVs are great sets.

It doesn't have built in wireless but there is an optional wireless adapter available for this set.

I love my Panny G25! Best TV I have owned.

Ditto the Panasonic love. My 50" "industrial" plasma from 2005 still works like a champ... although I shudder to think of what I paid for it compared to that price above.

I have the 50" version and it's a nice, mid-grade plasma.

I'd stay away. Panasonic's ST series provides a substantially better image than the S series, for not much more money. For my money, the ST series is the lowest I would go in the 2011 Panny plasma product line.

Nice-sounding deal. I know I paid near that price 4 years ago for a 720p 42" Panny. We love it. Tech marches on and prices march lower. Gotta love it.

n-os-x-tasy-

i know there are various features that differentiate the "st" from the "s" models.

but what is difference in the picture quality between the "st" series and the "s" series?

thanks in advance for any info you (or anyone ) cares to share.

be well.

The primary difference is that blacks are much blacker on the ST series than the S series. As the deepness of blacks is a primary component of overall picture quality, deeper blacks are better.

I believe the ST30 throws in a few features that the S30 doesn't have. 3-D is one of them - the ST30 is the lowest set in Panny's 2011 lineup that does 3-D. While a person might not care about viewing 3-D content (I don't), a rule of thumb in the CE industry is that a 3-D-capable plasma panel will provide a superior 2-D image than a non-3-D-capable panel.

We have two 50" plasma TVs, one Panny and one Vizio, The Vizio is hands down better.
