Don't breeeee eeeeeathe, don't breee eeeathe the aaaaaaiiiiiirrrrr..
Don't be afraid to stare
I see you just left me
Look down
you're in your own ground

Long you lived and high you flew
And smiles you gave and tears you cried
And all you touched and all you saw
Is all your life ever was to be

Stop, rabbit stop
Dig that hole, forget the sun
And when at last the work is done
Just lie down
This time you're diggin's done.

Long you lived and high you flew
But only as you rode the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You raced on towards an early grave

A sad day. I'll have to dig up my Syd bootleg cassette, buried somewhere in the moving boxes.

RIP

David Gilmour relates recording SOYCD and singing the 'now there's a look in your eye, like black holes in the sky' line when some haggard ex-druggie walked into the booth. Turns out it was Syd.

RIP

quote from the man - rather then songs "about" him

Arnold Layne had a strange hobby
Collecting clothes
Moonshine washing line
They suit him fine

On the wall hung a tall mirror
Distorted view, see through baby blue
He dug it
Oh, Arnold Layne
It's not the same, takes two to know
Two to know, two to know, two to know
Why can't you see?

Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne

Now he's caught - a nasty sort of person.
They gave him time
Doors bang - chain gang - he hates it

Oh, Arnold Layne
It's not the same, takes two to know
Two to know, two to know, two to know
Why can't you see?

Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne
Don't do it again.

He died a week or so before the release of the Pulse DVD.
Considering how far in between and few PF releases are, maybe this will add a bit more to his strange legacy.

RIP.

BTW, I've been enjoying Gilmore's "On An Island" lately and have it on in my car today. Very Floydish.

Yup. 7/11/06. I actually recorded the 94 concert from a PPV on Comcast. It's a great concert. I was at the Delicate Sound Of Thunder show(1991) at Nassau Coliseum on LI. That was also a great show and a really great VHS. (I think the back up chicks were much hotter).

I never really thought of the remaining group as Pink Floyd once Roger Waters left. I think of The Final Cut as their last album. How I loved Piper at the Gates of Dawn when I first heard it in 1989. The lyrics are just bizarre and quite funny, especially when stoned. Ah the good old days!

Oh where are you now
Pussy willow that smiled on this leaf?
When I was alone you promised the stone from your heart
My head kissed the ground
I was half the way down, treading the sand
Please, please, lift a hand
I'm only a person whose armbands beat
On his hands, hang tall
Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?

As I wrote on another list after I heard the news:

Over the years I managed to catch Pink Floyd a few times including one
memorable time before they even had a recording contract. A friend
said 'You have got to see this band, you will not believe what they
are doing.' I was hooked from then on but always felt that the most
exciting times were those early days with Syd in full flow.

Usually when the latest wellknown rock legend succumbs to the
inevitable I say I will be looking out one of their albums and giving
it another play but Piper at the Gates of Dawn is one of the few
albums that is permanently on my iPod anyway.

DItto. I love the heck out of that album.
Farewell, Syd. Perhaps he now lives in a field where barley grows...
