We always used blue tents, I have read pro and con. What has been your experience? I tried to wear blue backpacking (yes, I was younger once, I've not always been a grumpy old lady )

You might be hotter inside a dark colored tent and therefore breathing heavier, which is what attracts them.

If you are cooler in loose light clothes you might be less attractive to them.

Most of the animals in nature they would normally target would have mostly dark colored fur, so they should have developed receptors sensitive to those colors. Blue might be dark enough to appear "furry". ?

I rather doubt blue specifically, though.

Nope; worked in blue uniforms 30+ years. I had more mosquito bites than I care to remember. As mentioned, DEET does work. I have had good results with those electronic devices you clip on as long as the high pitched sound they emit don't drive you buggy. A friend who spends a lot of time in the woods recommended "Scent Away" soaps. You wash with Scent Away (available in bar and liquid form) before heading out into the woods. I think there is also Scent Away laundry soap. Scent Away is made by Hunter's Specialties. Walmart has carried it as well as Amazon.

If you're going to go that far you might as well get a few tats and something pierced too...

I wish I could remember the name of the stuff i used to use fishing. It's probably still sold in sporting goods stores. It worked on bugs. Also kept away wives, girlfriends, friends and your dog.
But it worked.

What you can do *(:>*

According to the American Mosquito Control Association the best way you can ward off mosquitoes is by following three rules: drain any standing water, dress in light colored clothing, as it's unattractive to most mosquitoes, and defend yourself using repellents approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, such as those containing the ingredient Deet and lemon eucalyptus oil. Check the repellent labels for the recommended usage for children. Repellants do not kill the mosquitoes, but they do help in keeping them away from you.
