improving complexion

My wife gave me a gift certificate for a massage and facial once. It improved my complexion quite a bit and I wouldn't mind doing it again, but it's pretty spendy business. At least it is when tied in with a massage. Anybody here do anything along these lines?

I am not a girl so I don't have the disposable income.
Good, non-detergent facial soap, and ponds.

Aren't facials a girl thing? What's next - mascara and nail polish?

Guys get dermal corrections/therapy - not facials. :-)

I fear this thread could end up in the gutter realquick.

Trying really hard not to aid pointing it there.

the best thing to wash your face is Cetaphil. ..recommended by dermatologist because it is NOT soap and doesn't dry the skin.

get some facial scrub (use it once to twice a week before shaving). ..most drug stores have men's lines now. ..like L'Oreal (although they usually charge more for the "men's line" so you can buy the women's stuff as long as the fragrance isn't too "female" for you. ..)

the drugstore stuff is cheap and just as effective. . .

Most important thing that people forget is sunscreen. . .takes years off your skin.

If you smoke, stop. . .not only might it cause health issues but it ages skin quite a bit as well.

Alpha Hydroxy acid. It exfoliates the skin. . .this brand is cheap and had been highly rated. If you have sensitive skin you probably shouldn't use it. You are supposed to test it on a patch of skin before using it all over your face.

LINK to Alpha Hydrox face cream. . .

Daily facial moisturizer, it would make it easier for you to get one with sunscreen. Go to a drugstore and get the once that works for you. Neutrogena makes some good ones.

Kiehl's makes a nice men's line that is a bit pricey though not as expensive as some of the designer stuff sold in department stores. . .

These are just basic guidelines.

BUT if you have the money, treat yourself every once in a while to something that you like. . .life is meant to be enjoyed afterall. . .

Or, you can just live a little and get the daggoned facial. Life is short. Have some fun.

Thanks Newt, Cetaphil is just what I was trying to think of, but my mind is in the gutter.

When I was younger and had minor facial skin woes I think I used Neutrogena to stay away from the drying effects of soap, but it may have been something else.

This calls for drastic measures:

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

In Europe, guys wearing "make-up" isn't as big a thing.

Ewan McGregor often wears eye liner and make-up and nail polish. . .

This seems to be a new trend in Hollywood. . .so popular that a few lines have been created just to produce makeup for men. (and this is subtle make-up not overly done and obvious.)

Jean Paul Gautier. . .4VOO . . .

Dove facial cloths. I get real bad skin irritation from shaving, these work pretty well.

The neutrogena sunblock [www.neutrogena.com] for the face is good, that or stand next to her.

Watch Daytime TV and you will be overwhelmed with ads for this kind of product. Too bad you'll have to watch the dribble in between the ads.

LOL, Spearmint, I think you meant the drivel between the ads.

Either that or the soap operas have gotten a lot more graphic lately.

A good solution for heavy acne problems is Proactiv, really. I know several people who use it and it cleared up their faces very quickly and they stayed that way.

I use Purpose Facial Wash. It was recommended to me by a friend years ago and I haven't switched back. Every once in a while I use one of those Dove facial cloths to exfoliate.

Concerning Alpha hydroxy, use the old West Indian/poor folk trick: wash your face with lemon. It's the same thing. Alpha hydroxy is fruit acids anyway. My mum grew up doing this and has some of the softest skin I've ever felt in my entire life.

the lemon is also suppose to "lighten" the skin. . .I've also heard of using pineapple but I think they are more expensive than lemons. ..

maybe limon? lemon/lime mix?

Okay, Okay it is drivel. I just invented the new word "dribble" to describe junk on daytime tv. I may put it in on Wikipedia. The for instance would be "Oprah and "The View."

Ok, I just scheduled a full body massage and a facial. Spendy but I deserve it! After that I'll stick with the products mentioned here, facial wash, exfoliant, and moisturizer. I hope I got it all right! Thanks,

Dave

i might try that Purpose wash, although i don't have problem skin.
in the summer the humidity makes my face feel sticky & dirty, and it feels good to give it a good wash at night.

what the hell does a duck's butt washing water have to do with facial cleansing?

Ponds are for ducks, and mafia victims.

And I could make a facial joke in general, but I won't. Jimmypoo would. He has no shame.

[edit] Aw, screw it....your wife gave you a facial dave? that's just.....well...wrong, and possibly physically impossible. Unless she has special fluidic powers I have only read tales about in questionable periodicals usually found in mechanic's bathrooms, and in the engineering spaces of military vessels.

I'd say I need not contribute to this thread. Racer handled it with great care, and I couldn't improve upon his contribution.

I don't have problem skin either, I inherited good skin from my mother. Purpose isn't harsh on my skin at all and it still feels really clean. It removes the oil without drying it out so much.

Newt, put Sprite on your face!
