looking for a clock
Posted by: bazookaman

I need an alarm clock. but I need one that i've been thus far unable to find. I'd like one that is completely dark...until the alarm goes off or perhaps when i hit a button. The alarm clock I have now is fine...when I throw a shirt over it at night. I cannot seem to find one that emits NO light. Is there such a thing?

I've got an iHome A1 that allows me to turn OFF the display backlight. In fact, my new iHome A5 does the same thing... the display is OFF when my iPhone is plugged into it. I'd look at them... they have awesome products. I'm liking their app... it tracks how much sleep I got, and how much I use the snooze button.

Heh. I guess I should mention that I don't have an ipod touch or iphone. SO something like that would be wasted. Although if I did have either of the above I'd probably have a lot more options.

Can't do a ticking clock. I can hear one from across the room while watching a Michael Bay film. There's no way I could sleep with one on the table next to my head.

Do you have an iPad? There is a nice "Alarmed" app.

Unfortunately no. I have a 160gb classic from years ago. That's the extent of my iDevices.

Sacrilege!
Seriously, whatever phone you do have should have an alarm clock setting. I use my Incredible as an alarm and the display is off until the alarm activates.

How about a cute little puppy to nudge the bed 6AM every morning because he needs to go out to pee.
Now!!!

I don't think of it as a waste. I don't think you're going to have much of a choice either.

I have this Sony clock radio right by my head in the bedroom.

The clock is specifically made dim so at night when it's pitch black it only glows softly. But it's hard to read in the day because of the dimness. Which leads to some negative reviews.

Eye shades might be easier to fine.

I have a great atomic clock, no ticking and has a lite if you press a button. Go it online but don't remember if it was Amz or some place else. Looks like the picture posted in these theads. Try checking atomic alarm clocks.

How about a travel alarm clock that runs on a battery.
The lights in those usually shut off and have a button on the top or front to turn the light back on.
They tend to be kinda small, though.

I don't have any suggestions but I appreciate your situation: I can't stand any light, or sound, and like using an actual alarm clock, and would never want to use an iphone (not that I will ever pay for one) or ipod or ipad as my alarm on a daily basis.

good luck. Decent alarm clocks are hard to find these days.

before i got an iPhone i used my Sony Ericsson flip phone for an alarm clock. in fact it's still plugged in next to my bed as i'm a bit paranoid and always like having a back-up alarm in case the iPhone fails. multiple alarms can be set to different sounds and frequencies. if i wake in the night and want to know what time it is the Sony Ericsson is the one i reach for. (the iPhone is on my mattress monitoring my sleep patterns. yep, there's an app for that...)

i also prefer no light or sound when i'm sleeping.

A little light bother you. A ticking clock bother you. You don't sleep very sound. I recommend you see a sleep specialist. I did, and saw a big improvement, when I started using the CPAP, unfortunately I stopped using it a while ago but I really need to start using it again

Casio Travel Alarm

I've used this for the last 10 years or so. Change the batteries about every 2 years.

Except when it has a bug due to the time change and it never goes off.

Bazooka,

Try this:

They're cheap and the display remains unlit until you press the snooze/light button. Do that, the display lights up for a few moments and then the light turns off again. If I am understanding your post correctly, then this clock is definitely a viable solution.
