been loading CD songs from outside sources, for playback. alls been well.
for some odd reason, today, any CD I load comes up as Japanese chars (not the actual file name), and isn't "allowed" to be copied to my disc; whether from CD or copied on a different pute to a flash drive, pute2pute network in either direction.

Restarted, repaired permissions, fsck - nada.

Email works, but they're aiffs are too large for the spotty internet performance where I am. I've had this problem before and have only fixed with a restart. Any other ideas what may have caused this?

could this possibly be a result of burns from a windoze machine?
I finally imported them with iTunes, but Finder was stumped.
