How to get rid of cigarette smoke smell from iBook?

I just purchased a used iBook G3 (800 MHz) on eBay. Forgot to check if it had been used in a smoking environment. It was.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to clear the smell from it? Is it even possible?

Thanks,
Michael

I don't know about an iBook, but I have a G5 that smelled strongly of cigarette smoke from its previous owner. It dissipated on its own over time. No odor at all now.

I had that problem with an iMac. I took it apart and scrubbed all of the plastic with 409, Windex and water.

It still stank.

The odor got into the circuit boards.

I cleaned the circuit boards with circuit board cleaner.

It still stank.

The odor was DEEP in the circuit boards.

I left it in a closet for 6 months.

Voila. The stench was gone.

That's promising. Of course, being an older iBook, it's been exposed to smoke for a while.

Get a can of AIRX RX85 "CARPET & SPACE DEODORIZER". [www.airxinfo.com]
Put some of that in several shallow bowls (It's a crystalline powder). Place the iBook along with the bowls in a closet for 3 to 5 days. If you can still detect the smoke afterwards, repeat the process.

AIRX Labs can tell you where to buy locally. RX85 is $9 or so for a 2lb. can.

Air, and time. It's not rocket science.

Same would be true if it smelled like chocolate.
