getting rid of my vinyl records

Seemed like the day to ask this.

I have a completely unremarkable collection of about 100 vinyl LPs, nearly all 70s and 80s pop. Elton John, Jackson Browne, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Steely Dan, etc. Another dozen are classical records. I have no illusions that they're worth very much, but is there any place that I can get $50 for the lot? $20? I live in a high rise and won't be having a garage sale.

Do your windows open?

Do you know how to throw a frisbee...?

I think this place is super-cool:

If I have much of my vinyl collection left besides classical (not sure where most of it went) and an easy way to transport it I'd just give it to them.

as a lot, expect to get about 25 cents each from a wholesaler.

we have a local shop with a 50 cent room; every few weeks, the owner sells off the whole room to someone else and replenishes it.

If they're clean and scratch-free take nice pictures of them and sell them on eBay or Amazon, one at a time. You'll get the most money that way but will have to subtract suitable cardboard mailers out of your profits and it'll take a lot longer to sell.

Most used record stores won't want them; they're too common. Those that do won't pay much for them. Don't bother calling them; just show up with a box, it makes it a little harder for them to say no. If any are first pressings or in VG+ or better condition you could argue for more money. Collectors would want to know the label and probably deadwax info and see clear pictures.

It may be worthwhile to type a list of what you have and post it somewhere with your general location.

I sold most of mine a couple of years ago, I kept a few that were rare or had sentimental value. I put an ad on Craigslist selling the lot of 300 for $150. A local used record store bought them.

I'm only saving to see if my kids show any interest in them in a few years, otherwise they are going. however, some are out of print (in other media) and I'm going to want to record them in some format when the time comes.

even the local Salvation Army stores still want $1.00 per record, which I think is ludicrous.

I'm saving mine b/c they are buried under so much in the basement storage that it would be too difficult to get them out.

I'd buy that for a dollar and not think twice about it.

We donated our collection years ago.

And gave our fixed turntable to the in-laws.

My youngest daughter has said that I must not sell my vinyl collection (I wasn't going to anyway) as she would very much like to have it when the time comes. As an extra she has also asked if we could help provide the house big enough to keep it.

Same here.

And thanks for the YouTube link, dk. I think I just added another title to my wishlist.

Just slogging through it gets old after a while when it's unorganized pap like that. I'll happily trudge through weird and oddball stuff all day for the odd gem or curio.
