Just curious. I stopped wearing a watch when I started carrying a cell phone.

I feel naked without a watch. Looking at my wrist to quickly check the time is soooooo much easier for me than pulling out my cell phone.

Also, I like a wrist watch as a decorative accessory, like a bracelet that tells time. smiling smiley

Why "still"? Has something changed that one wouldn't find them useful anymore?

There are replacements for CD players and DVD players. There aren't, AFAIK, replacements for watches.

What personal clock:
- Can be looked at easily within a second or two?
- Has a battery life of years?
- Can work regardless of location?
- Can work underwater?

I'm not aware of any inexpensive, personal clock technology that does that.

I feel naked without a watch...
but, after having the cervical rib resected on the left side eleven and half years ago, and the nerve damage in my lower left arm not resolving itself, the days (and years) of watch wearing came to an end.
Switched to carrying a pocket watch in the belly bag after that, but actually find it easier just to use the cell phone 99% of the time.
Would love to be able to wear a watch again.

I wear a watch when I go out but never when I am at home, we have clocks all over the house.

I have had this watch for about 15 years.

Yes I know the date is wrong, I never look at that. It was a replacement for a near identical looking one which was a self winder but the strap broke after 25 years. At the time I couldn't get the proper Seiko replacement so bought the modern quartz version after a year of carrying the old watch around in my pocket. Both keep excellent time and that is all I need, I don't dive to 300 feet or need to know the time in Bangkok.

Indeed. But for my purposes it is redundant to have a wrist watch. My phone is small enough that I can discretely and quickly check the time, and the clock functionality will work anywhere. Since I always have my cellphone and always keep it charged for that function then the clock is always charged, and I do not need to know what time it is when underwater. Therefore I do not find a wristwatch to be useful anymore.

A watch is the only jewelry I wear.

Besides their practicality, I love the way they look. Always handier than my 'Phone, I never leave home without one, though I have left my 'Phone at home (and regretted it). I always notice that I'm not wearing one, but never consciously aware of the feel of it.

I wish the 'Phone had more watch/clock faces available. And I wish there was an option to push wake the 'Phone with the Sleep/Power button an have a clock face instead of the normal desktop pic with the time/day/date banner at the top. Rolex, Omega (I don't say Oh-mee-ga) and others could make an app that ran as the lock screen. I'd kill for one that showed a Submariner, Speedmaster Professional, and that Platinum Omega that somebody showed here months ago.

I'd settle for an app that rotated desktop pics at intervals and/or each time you woke the iDevice.

Did I mention that I love watches?

I just quit daily wear this past year when my battery died. I still wear one when I exercise--either a watch/heart monitor or a nano holder (ok, not a real watch), depending on the workout. I also sometimes wear a Walmart cheapie while working in the yard since I rarely carry my cellphone when playng in the dirt.

I just can't think of a reason I'd need to look at a watch.

I should add that I hardly ever look at my cellphone either. I wake up to an alarm. I look at the microwave/stove/tv to make sure I leave for work on time. There's a clock in my truck just in case. I sit at a computer all day which has a clock. I go home. I go to bed when I see it's time on the microwave/stove/tv.

If I'm away from all those things, I'm obviously somewhere where I wouldn't give two monkeys about the time.

Let's say you're driving, how long does it take you to pull the phone out of your pocket and see what time it is? I can check my watch in under a second. On a ski lift, biking up a mountain... a watch is still MUCH easier to check than a phone.

Most phones I've had for the past many years don't do a good job of keeping track of time if they lose a cell signal. With a couple, the clock would shutoff if there was no signal. Plus I wouldn't trust a phone's time over a watch.

I doubt most people can always keep their phone charged. Mine often goes dead when I go camping.

Taking the kid swimming, going fishing... there's just no way I can always keep my phone from getting wet. With a watch, I don't have to worry about it.

I continued wearing my watch after getting a cellphone until it's battery died. Took a few days to get used to getting the time from a phone and I haven't looked back since.

This is what I wore for the previous 20 years or so:

I had that watch for about ten years; it was my first 'grown up' watch. It was lost while traveling (missing luggage) and was replaced with a Citizen Quartz that I've had for going on fifteen years.

Recently, the battery died and, purely as an experiment, I started using my cell phone for the time, though I still have the totally parrot dead Citizen clamped to my wrist. The cell works okay, but it doesn't even come close to beating the watch. I work in a deadline oriented field, and I'm looking for the time constantly. Nothing beats a quick flip of the wrist to have the current time at your fingertips.

Two words: Rental Car. Betcha ya can't in a rental car. Sometimes it's hard enough to figure out how to turn the headlights on. Much easier to glace up at my watch than try to find the clock. Plus they're usually not accurate anyway.

I love watches but have not worn a watch in at least 10 years.

Ironically, I may start wearing one again because I'm in meetings more frequently at work and (as someone mentioned) not wanting to obviously reach for my phone to check the time, it's easier to glance at the watch. I did this today, except it was some other person's watch.

I voted no. I used to where a watch fairly regularly, then I stopped, then I picked up a pocket watch, then I stopped again. I just use my cell phone. I often have two on/near me so I'm rarely out of battery power.

I stopped wearing watches for a while after the batteries died in my Movado and my Gucci. They were both nice watches, but they rape you on battery changes, and a lot of places wont touch them. After about a year or so I just picked up a new watch on a cruise. I went with a Citizen Eco Drive so I dont have to worry about batteries.
