How much time do you have? There are so many. Oh, yeah, avoid 405 less you have spare time to sit in traffic longer than normal ;)

SoCal for now.

Chakravartin-Thanks for the suggestions.

Kap- I only have a few hours. No car. I will need to take cabs from downtown area by the Staples Center.

Talking about the Lit' Tokyo. Check out New York Snow at 738 East 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013. It's not snow cone; it's shaved iced with real fresh fruits (as in not frozen). Delicious and very low in calories. The atmosphere is very family oriented, cozy, and friendly. We were there over the weekend. We are coming back soon for the 3rd, 4th, etc.

I don't know if the Bradbury Building is open, but it's the bomb (a hundred movies shot there). The Grand Central Market is across the street. The Central Library is stunning. All of the above stuff is more than worthwhile. The Pantry for breakfast (cheap).

A friend of mine did much of the exhibit design work at the Grammy Museum which is right there at Staples Center. It's very cool and worth checking out. Could easily spend several hours there.

Also if you've never seen a Frank Gehry building, the Walt Disney Concert Hall is pretty cool to wander around. Even if it's closed you can meander through and around its many undulating walkways. A little over a mile north of Staples Center (25 min walk or 5 min cab ride)

Kap-
Nice. My wife will love a place like this and it looks like they're opening one closer to me in Eagle Rock too.
Thanks!

The Cathedral on Temple Street.

Expo Park (across the street from USC).

If you go to Union Station, may as well wander across the street to Phillipe's and Olvera Street.
