Making DVDs from TIVO or Dish Recorder

I want the ability to put any recorded show that I capture in my DishDVR 522 (I guess it's Dish's version of Tivo) onto a DVD.

Any ideas on how one does this, or a forum I could ask around at?

I'm completely open to getting a new DVD player for my TV/home theater setup. The options are confusing, and I'm not sure how to read the specs to find out if it'll record a DVD from something I've taped on the Dish HD (that 522 device).

If any of you have a setup that allows you to capture any TV show (recorded or not) onto a DVD, to be able to play in my Mac, or just on a DVD player, let me know your setup!

I just hook up my DirecTV receiver to a standalone DVD recorder via S-Video. Sure, it's an analog copy of a digital signal, but the quality is pretty good.

Pioneer DVR/recorder 810H - connects to the dish box - gives TIVO capability with the ability to burn to disk

I think I found a great forum for home theaters:

I'll report back with what I find.

I have an older DTiVo - just drop in a CacheCard with ethernet. Run TiVotool (must upload one file) and download to iPod or iTunes or make DVDs.

With Tytool on Windowe you can edit out commercials and make a DVDs with simple menus.

------

The new units are harder to hack - so the stand alone DVD player is not a bad way to go. The Magavox unit gets Ok reviews and runs just under $100 at WallyWorld/Sam's World.

Firewire video capture is an option - can eyeHome do something with video capture?

ADent: if I understand you correctly: any DVD player/recorder will allow me to hook up to the DishDVR and both record from it (to a burned DVD), as well as show DVDs on my TV. Is that correct?

You'll be able to play DVDs through the 522 only if your unit has av inputs as well as outputs. My Dish 508/510 units don't. I send the output from my DVRs through a Canopus, capturing and editing the video in iMovie and burning DVDs in iDVD. If you don't need to edit, then going straight to a standalone DVD recorder is the easiest way.

I guess ADent isn't responding, so I will. I'm betting almost every standalone DVD recorder out there will be able to hook up to your DishDVR and record from it, as well as play DVDs. Output from DVR (typically S-Video output for video, standard RCA jacks for audio) will go into DVD recorder. Pretty much like you would hook up a VCR. Then you'd hook up the output of the DVD recorder to your TV.

Your best bet is to try to download the user manual of any product you're thinking of buying and look for the pictures of how they suggest you hook it up.

I record programs with our Directv Tivo and then transfer those recorded programs to my Pioneer DVD recorder (Model 420) with an internal hard drive. I can then use the built in editing program prior to burning a disc. 2 hour per disc quality is nearly as good as the original signal.
When I was looking for one of these the Tivo/Dvd recorders would not allow editing.
