As GeneL noted, this is one of Apple's iTMS security questions. I am really curious how many people can actually answer this question.

I vaguely recall seeing a concert at a state fair when I was a kid. I think anyway. I had to be maybe five or so. No clue who it would be... some band that would be playing the Montana State Fair.

I'm sure there were other concerts like that afterwards. I think I saw some of Willie Nelson once. I do recall the first concert I went to without my parents - but don't remember the date, location nor band. I went with friends who were going and I doubt I even heard the band name before I got there.

But there's one thing for sure, I do not remember the name, date, location or bands at the first concert I attended.

Metallica/GnR/Faith No More in 1992.

Saw them in Phoenix @PIR. This was Hetfield's return after a pyro accident a few tour dates back and the intervening ones were cancelled. Metallica was awesome, still the best rock performance I've seen live. Sound was perfect and the crowd was great! And GnR sounded awful, using the same equipment. I appreciate the job of a sound engineer thanks to this side by side comparo. It's odd as GnR sounds good on their CDs and Metallica doesn't— different people working the boards in and out of the studio, I suppose. Saw Metallica a few years later in San Bernardino and they sounded meh and the crowd sucked.

You (almost) always remember your first!

I don't consider seeing the Osmonds at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo when I was a kid as a "concert."

So what I consider my first concert was the Who with opening act Stevie Ray Vaughan at the Houston Astrodome in 1989. I was either 18 or 19 years old, depending on what month the concert was in.

I kinda consider The Yardbirds with Jimmy Page in my HS cafeteria as my first real concert although it was actually billed as a dance.

But my first official concert was:

May 1969 Fillmore East, New York, NY: Led Zeppelin, Woody Herman & His Orchestra, Delaney & Bonnie Lights: Joshua Light Show

I saw them several times during that first album tour.

Miles Davis and a whole bunch of others at Newport (R.I.) Jazz festival. 1969

Busted and couldn't go anywhere for at least a week because we were forbidden to be in or go anywhere with an older cousin who had a souped up Camaro and got into trouble. And that's how we got there.

I think I was 13/14 for those first few shows... wait... I specifically remember that that the fist one was DEC of 74 - so I was 13...

July 1977 Day on the Green - Oakland Coliseum

Led Zeppelin, Derringer, Judas Priest

I was there!!!! What a horrible show!!! That was the famed
'last' Led Zeppelin concert with fist fights back stage and at least a two hour wait for Zep to get on stage. Bill Graham went of stage a few times to settle the crowd. I remember one line of BS, 'Jimmy is having some trouble with his double neck guitar..."

That was my first extreme disappointment in a concert. I also saw other favorites that year - Yes... the Who and they were AMAZING

I don't specifically remember my first concert ...

I do have some vague recollections of seeing John Denver (Thank God I'm a Country Boy!) with my parents, but don't know if that was the first concert.

Joan Baez at Carnegie Hall???? Are you f.ing kidding me? That's a hell of a first...

i had been trying for three years to get a ticket to a baez concert but by the time i found out about them they were always sold out. it was the summer before college. i lived in the Bronx and would sometimes commute 2 hours into manhattan to walk around the Village to feel hip and cool. i had picked up a copy of the Village Voice that day but didn't read it until I had gotten back home to the bronx. it was then i saw the ad for Baez at Carnegie Hall. the Voice had come out that day and i knew that upcoming show could not possibly be sold out. i got right up from my kitchen table and traveled the two hours back into Manhattan. The Carnegie Hall box office hadn't closed and i asked the agent if he had any tickets left for the joan baez concert. he asked how many i wanted and i said one. 'Just one?' he asked and i said yes. he said 'OK, I'll make it a good one.' I paid for my ticket and walked over to the seating map on the wall. He had given me front row center! you cannot imagine how happy i was.

The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Robin Hood Dell when I was in Junior High School, not sure which year or how old. I remember it as being Schubert and/or Schumann but my memory is so poor (always has been).

Small venue: Emerson's Old Timey Custard-Suckin' Band

Large venue: Joan Baez or Grateful Dead, not sure because they were in the same month of the same year.

21. Yeah, super lame.

Funny thing is, many of the concerts I've gone to just haven't been that great where the whole experience was worth it. Grateful Dead, REM, U2, some others. I must not be going to the right ones or not smokin' the right stuff beforehand. Seeing Tom Waits' The Black Rider (play, not concert) was much better and I'm not really a fan of Waits.

You all did certainly get to seem some good shows. Shortly after I turned 21 I started getting a lot of concert tickets for free, including VIP , all access passes and invites to parties at the bands' hotels. Though at least once that turned into having to give a police report. Another time I almost had my video camera trashed by a band manager (Offspring). And another time I got forcibly carried out of a venue - told to cross the street even (Alice in Chains reunion). I missed a couple songs but was eventually let back and security was really nice after that since I wasn't a jerk about it.

But I couldn't tell you what order all that was in.

My friend has a funny story about his brother, who followed the Grateful Dead around impersonating their sound man's brother (same name) to get in for free. Bill Graham caught him at the Fillmore and threatened to beat him up if he ever saw him there again. It's better when my friend tells it.

My first? I remember who and when... but too embarrassing to say here.

Subsequent concerts include General Public/The Fixx (1984), Los Lobos (1985), Oingo Boing (New Year's Eve 1985), Springsteen (1987), Michael Jackson (1988) and some others I can't remember just now.

Drove by the US Festival in 1983 and so badly wanted to go. Found out years later that my sister did go... at the tender age of 15... without telling our parents.

hell no...... too much of the wacky tabacky as a youngster.....

I do however remember the very first concert that I bought a ticket for.

It was Chicago and the Beach Boys (and Honk who did not make the show) at Anahiem Stadium....1975 and I was in the 10th grade.

The concert was on a Friday and my friends and I ditched school so that we could go with one of the guys older sisters.

This was the very first "Rock" concert ever held at the Big A. There was no seating assigned
so it was a giant free for all and we spent the afternoon roaming all around the stadium.

Towards the end of the concert we were sitting up in the top tier of the stadium and when the band started playing Help Me Rhonda people were standing up and jumping up and down to the beat.... we thought we were tripping out as we watched the upper levels "bending" and moving in waves until they started flashing warnings on the big screen for everyone to sit down!

They even stopped the concert and told everyone over the PA that they would end the concert if people on the upper decks didn't stay seated!!!

Aloha, Ken

Well, there was the Fillmore, before the Fillmore West, and Winterland, the Cow Palace, Golden Gate Park, county fairs, and others before the Fillmore. Saw lots of the greats in the 60's, but almost fifty years later, MAVIC's on point; no longer have a clue which came first, the chicken or the egg. Elementary school or honeymoon location are better security questions.

I briefly attended a couple of concerts that on of my uncles roadied in the 80s, though the only one that sticks out in my head for some reason is Amy Grant (go figure).

First concert I up and paid for myself? I think it was Smashing Pumpkins, Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness tour, October 23, 1996.
