Re: Do you remember the first concert you went to?

My parents dragged me to a concert of Frankie Vali & The Four Seasons sometime in the early 1980s when I was a kid.

The first actual rock concert I attended on my own was R.E.M. and the Feelies in the Felt Forum in NYC in the fall of 1986. The Feelies were actually the better band that evening and still put on an ass-kicking live show 26 years later.

I was 14 or 15 when my brother took me to see Earth Wind & Fire at the Forum in Inglewood. Loved it.

That would have been great!

Lordy, I know my school trucked some of downtown to listen to the Youngstown symphony but I don't remember anything about that except it happened.
The first one i remember was seeing the Fugs in Cleveland when i was in college. Although that may have been after seeing Rudolf Serkin and George Szell at Severance Hall.

Big Brother and the Holding Company at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit in 1968. Other than the local stuff like the Amboy Dukes (c'mon, who was the lead guitarist?) at the Mummp.

Wasn't really a concert, more like a dance, at the Dreambowl, between Napa and Vallejo, 1966. Santana. Had never heard of them by then, but they sure did raise the roof.

First real concert was It's a Beautiful Day and Elvin Bishop, if I recall correctly. Fillmore West about 1971. Some people were setting off fireworks in the audience. It's a wonder it didn't burn down.

Those were the days (daze?).

Either Rush (Moving Pictures tour) or Jethro Tull ( I think it was the "A" tour). Can't remember which came first. Late 70's

Rush was nose-bleed seats off to the side, Tull was front row.

Enjoyed both!

The first concert I attended that I wanted to see was The Osmonds in 1972 at Legion Field here in Birmingham. Go ahead, laugh. They did have Peter, Paul, and Mary opening up for them, though.

The first concert I attended, period, was Johnny Cash, the Carter Family, and several others (possibly Tammy Wynette and/or Faron Young as well, but I can't remember for sure) at Boutwell Auditorium here in Birmingham a year or two before the Osmonds show.

My dad took me to see the Osmonds in Montgomery, Alabama when I was about six. This was the early 70's, and teenage girls still thought they had to scream through the whole show.

That's pretty much all I remember about it...

Jeff Beck's Rough and Ready Tour - Todd Rungren, fresh from the Nazz breakup, was the opening act.

When I was maybe 6 or 7 my parents took me with them to see Kenny Rogers at the BJCC in Birmingham, AL. That got followed up a year or so later by the Charlie Daniels Band. I think my first "self paid for" concert was Tesla (with Firehouse as the opener) in 1992 at the Oak Mountain.

Can't think of one earlier than Fleetwood Mac, Met Center, Bloomington, MN, about 1978. I think Stevie Nicks was wasted during the show.

The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Robin Hood Dell when I was in Junior High School, not sure which year or how old. I remember it as being Schubert and/or Schumann but my memory is so poor (always has been).

later called The Mann Music Center ...

It was either the Rolling Stones - the Steel Wheels tour
or Stevie Ray Vaughan (touring for InStep) at an outdoor music festival.
1989-90 time frame

Men at Work, 1983.
It was cool at the time. Seriously.

[btw Men at Work, Business as Usual, was my first music record I ever got on my own, I still think they are cool!]

I've seen Colin Hay's solo shows recently, he's very entertaining. Lots of good stories about the old days with Men At Work.

Strawberry Alarm Clock played a few songs at the foot of the Hermosa Beach pier back in the late sixties and I was there for that. During the 60's I used to listen to quite a bit of jazz through the open front door of the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach.

But the 1st official concert would be Jethro Tull at the Forum in 1973.

My parents never took me to concerts.

First show I went to was Midnight Oil at the Horden Pavillion in Sydney.
I was about 12.

First show that I went to at a bar i.e. had to pretend that I was of legal drinking age (18) was The Hoodoo Gurus at the Manning Bar at Sydney University.
I was 15.

Between the ages of 15 and about 30 I went to a lot of shows.
Probably 8- 10 a week.
Happy days.

Forgot to mention the time I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers at a bar in the UC Santa Barbara student center in 1986. I barely remember that one...
