OK... I want to know about fantastic deals on FW/911 boxes-DVD-HDs

I have inspected the goods here at OWC, and that is usually my first and only stop.

But I'm in the process of weighing out the Mini situation, and what I'd need to transfer and make me happy, and that means a 5.25" FW box and a 3.5" box, or one that handles TWO of either.

Since we are into DEALS here - I'd appreciate any suggestions you might be seeing in your own email boxes from various places.

I had a pair of domains expire (and I'm not renewing) so - the stuff that was going there I don't get anymore.

I want to house my 7200/8MB HD and my DVD-r, unless I find a new DVD-r that makes more sense to buy, already packaged.

(I have to confess.... I really like the idea of LightScribe, but the media is still 10x what I think it is worth).

Thanks in advance.

by the way.... this looks like an awesome piece of equipment...

[eshop.macsales.com]

a drive enclosure AND a USB 2/FW hub.

CAN THIS BE USED AS BOTH SIMULTANEOUSLY? Larry? Jamie?

Check out the selection at PCMicroStore.com. They have a vast assortment of drive cases there.

Find what you like at PCMicroStore, then use froogle and nextag to see if there's a better deal on the particular models that you like. (Often, there's simply not a better deal -- PCMicroStore has good prices on drive cases.)

No.
This question should be on a FAQ.

The above link has this creature..... which 2 of them would do the deed - but I'd need a FW hub as well.

Penny pinching shows 2 of these equals one of the NEWER boxes in $$$, but the style is lost.

Is there a DVD box that is the same size as the Mini?

You did mean using both FW/USB ports at the same time?
If yes, then still no, even with a hub.

I think I'm more concerned with FW daisy chain. The USB on the mini is adequate, and I also have a tiny MacAlly powered 3 port hub that is the size of a small optical mouse.

The drive inside the miniStack either operates via USB2 or FireWire interface - user selectable.

The FireWire and USB2 Hubs are independent and both functional.

There is no solution on the market that I am aware of that allows simultaneous use of both FireWire and USB2 interfaces to access drive... no different than there being FireWire drives that let two different computers simultanously access.

We do not have a dual bay 5.25" solution..... either. We do have very inexpensive 5.25" USB2 enclosures that are iDVD compatible, etc. And get the miniStack for the solid performing FireWire drive solution and integrated USB2 and FW Hub in one.

What in the firewire standard precludes use by two CPUs at once?

Where is the 5.25. USB2? The Mini uses USB2, so perhaps that is my DVD-r solution?

"I want to house my 7200/8MB HD and my DVD-r"

you want to put a Powermac 7200 with 8 megs of RAM, and it's hard drive, inside a case along with a DVD-R burner? That would be one freaking rare case.

I meant two Macs using FW at the same time. I see comments regarding PC/Mac

Racer,

The PowerMac 7200 also has a 7200rpm HD with 8mb of cache.

I can't believe that there isn't a solution to this. Surely applying enough heat will permit me to melt down the entire mass into a small blob that will fit into a small, 1.8" aluminum FW case - WITH DVD-r.

a heat gun and some teflon spatulas? kind of a one-off neo scuplture?

Add some LEDs and a whiney fan with one of those sissy grilles like that chrome mud flap lady, and sell it to some PC gamer geek?
