Where to sell Ikea storage furniture besides Craig's List?

Hi gang,

I'm in the process of getting rid of some stuff from my previous life a year ago. One nice piece of furniture is an Ikea storage unit. I've already created the listing on Craig's List but I'm worried it won't sell quickly, especially during the prime apartment moving season and others want to purge as well.

So where else can I sell this in the NYC area that has as much visibility as CL? For reference, here's my ad: [newyork.craigslist.org]

If anybody has suggestions on how to change the ad to make it sell quickly, that would be great too.

Thanks for your help all...

Does your apartment building have a bulletin board ? There might be an buyer in the building that would be interested due to the convenience of not having to transport it.

Trisho,

Maybe consider putting it into other sections of craigslist, i.e. Long Island and Queens. Three years ago, I drove from Nassau County, Long Island to purchase a table and four chairs from a seller in Brooklyn. It took me nearly an hour once I factored in traffic on the Belt Parkway but it was well worth it. I got an awesome and a great table and chairs.

Maybe free classifieds in a local paper, too? That and there are sites similar to craigslist that might be worth a looksie as well. Maybe worth making some flyers and posting them in local places such as supermarkets, drugstores and even on college campuses. You might need to get permission. Hunter and NYU come to mind.

FWIW, I wouldn't concern yourself about whether or not the item will move quickly. It may be prime moving season and a time when people purge their homes of potentially awesome items. However, it's also a time when people, especially college students, need items for apartments and dorm rooms.

The storage unit but it looks in top shape. There's definitely something to be said for that, regardless of price. And, in my opinion, you've give it a very reasonable price.

Is there a local supermarket with a community bulletin board? You'd be dealing with someone local. Put up a 3x5 card or a larger ad if allowed. I've sold stuff that way.

Hey lafinfil, my apartment is in an owner-occupied brownstone, so only 3 apartments in the whole building. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Robert M, good point about posting it in the Long Island areas as well. But, I'm worried the double posting may get flagged at CL. Might as well try though. I'm not sure what the other sites similar to CL are though. I'll try asking coworkers where they post things.

Trisho,

I don't know how Craigslist handles ads. Never sold anything on it before. But, I know when I'm browsing for items, I definitely look in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk. Right now, I'm searching for a nice compact rolltop desk for my wife and delve into all four areas. I draw the line at crossing the bridge into the Bronx, Staten Island and Westchester. Not worth it due to the expense of the tolls, traffic and overall agita.
