CoEd Naked Copper Caper Melts My Ice Rink

Ok, so there are no coeds, nor are they naked but it made you look.

The local ice rink that I skate at is about 3 weeks away from the opening of the season, but we may have to put that opening 'on ice' because thieves broke in and stole the wiring for the compressor. They stole a few hundred dollars worth of copper, but caused about $10k in damages in the process. We're trying to raise some money to make the repairs and open on time. I'm just shotgunning this out to everyone I can think of to see if anyone is interested in helping.

Edit: I should mention that the rink is a non-profit, all volunteer operation. We're scrambling to find money so that we can still open on time. It takes about a week to put in the ice, so the clock is ticking.

They had one, but it only monitored the doors and windows. Didn't expect someone to cut through the walls.

In Canton, Ohio they're moving the outdoor units to the roofs.

We had a local school get copper pipes ripped from the roof. And some copper decorative panels get stolen from a private library.

California used to have bronze historical road marker plaques they were being ripped off all the time. They switched to aluminum and then they too disappeared. Finally they switched to some sort of metallic plastic and they seem to be staying.

Don't let me get started on man hole covers!

Looks like they struck again, but they actually made a significant haul this time:

Time to require photo ID's for scrapping/recycling, and maintain a database of all materials received, and institute a seven day moratorium on processing of materials after receipt, and not allow processing of uncatalogged materials.

and then there's times when it's really better.

We've started to receive donations through our website.

A figure skating club in Anaheim CA has donated $500!

It is a good feeling to see a niche community unite a bit.

Oh, and here are the rules for how to receive scrap metal in Washington State...not that everyone follows the rules.
