Safari works just fine for a while, then I can't enter text in a box such as the one I'm writing in now, then all of a sudden, I can only enter a letter or two and nothing else. In these cases, I get a report error page from Apple. It also loads pages slowly. If I kill the process in Activity Monitor, that part improves for a while.

I have a smart arse answer for you Chrome I've tried to go back Safari several times in the last couple years and just can't do it.

That happens to me from time to time. I noticed that when the cursor disappears you can continue and eventually the text will appear, but that's hardly satisfactory. Not certain that was what you were describing but it's an off and on problem with me.

Posting this on Camino because it once was and Chrome now is becoming my primary browser. Not happy at all with Google/Chrom privacy policies. Seeking alternatives.

when I've had that happen with Safari it always seems to have been some element from the webpage that preceded it although quitting and relaunching seems to kill that process

I feel your pain - I can never depend on one browser. Right now, I am using OmniWeb. But, I usually have Camino, OmniWeb, and maybe Safari open all the time on my Mac. For me, I just won't use anything google makes if I know it...

Every one you contact, everything you post, and thus everything you think goes into that great Google info tank. They say they read but don't save the content of your emails and will do no harm. That may be true but once they are given a court order, they will have no choice but to surrender whatever they've saved.

The NSA and CIA do what Google does and Goofus has to give them anything they don't already have. I'm old and semi-retired but don't want to see my grandchildren growing up in a place where privacy is something they only read that once actually happened.

I suppose I should't worry since by then the notion of privacy will have vanished from the lexicon.

OK, back to Safari. Has anyone else had this happen, and have you found a solution that was not mentioned in the earlier thread?

Have you tried disabling JavaScript and Java in the Safari Security pref's?

You can always turn them on again.

Disabling Java and JavaScript and turning off extensions are useful troubleshooting tools. After Flash, they are most responsible for Safari crashes and slowdowns.
