I was lucky enough to see the original lineup, Countdown to Ecstasy era. One of the best concerts ever.

They aren't necessarily one of my favorite groups. I don't even have one of their songs on my iPod. However, seeing them live was a great experience. Very tight performance. The drummer was really good.

I saw Steely open for ELO when both were with original (or close to) line-ups at Avery Fisher.

I went for ELO as I was big fan of p-rock, but ELO was drunk as any good English band at the time was.

Steely Dan, who I wasn't much interested in, kicked butt. I went and bought the first 3 LPs the next day. Shame the 'aven't done pi$$ since Royal Scam.

But then ELO didn't do pi$$ after Eldorado.

$ kills good music.

and since I'm ranting, I'm so sick of Jeff Lynnes production efforts, turning good music into factory drone.

feh!

what a loss when Joe Strummer left early

Steely Dan brings back fond memories of carefree times. Michael MacDonald brings back fond memories of the electronics store manager in 40 Year Old Virgin.

I saw ELO in the mid-seventies. They played in the gym at my college. They played music from their 1st couple of albums. They were great. I used to help set up the stage for the concerts. We had some great groups come through. Crummy acoustics though.

His first real pro gig was playing and singing with them. If you know Peg, just think of the BVs.

In Naked Lunch, the @#$%& Steely Dan is a prop used in a porn-film scenario based on the orgasms that accompany death by hanging. Imagine such grotesqueries related in a flat Midwestern accent and you get the flavor of the Burroughs sensibility. Its the literary equivalent of the Fagen-Becker music of Steely Dan.

I've got an awsome live bootleg of SD from 1974. Those guys were MONSTERS! Kicked butt as someone else said. When they got back together in 1990(?) I went to see them and it was the most dissapointing show in my whole life.

It was like SD muzak. I'll never see them again, but I listen to that boot often...
