What "OS9" games should I own?
Posted by: spacescape
Date: January 03, 2006 10:22PM
I am setting up my Gaming station up in the basement. Of these games, I have Doom 2, Rebel Assault, Wolfenstein 3d 2, MacMame and many kids games. I wouldn't mind having a handful of games for my friends to play on the TV but would love them to be cheap...

Thanks!
Bill

Marathon! Bungie released the trilogy for free, so it should be easy to find and download.

I liked Age of Empires, although that is less of an arcade game than you might want. Same goes for Ceasar III, and all the Warcraft series games.

for 1st person Shooters, Duke Nukem (and the clone Shadow Warrior) are fun. Both have the ability for user created maps (levels) there used to be hundreds of them available for download for free.

Thanks for all the tips... I downloaded Marathon Trilogy... I believe I have a CD from Ambrowia Software that included ALL of their games (Malstrom & Escape Velocity) for free... Just can't remember...

Just curious, where might I locate some of these games? Allot of them are not available... For example, I wouldn't mind getting a few that you all suggested...

Duke Nukem 3D
Shadow Warrior
Unreal Tournament
Cro-Mag Rally
Havoc
4x4 Evo
1-2 You Don't Know Jack
Pit Droids
Apeiron
F/A18 hornet.
A10 warthog

I found Duke Nukem 3D on E-bay but would love to find it elsewhere without dealing w/ e-bay. Oh, and [mac.the-underdogs.org] had possibly a couple as well...

Thanks for any suggestions.

Space,

Another recommendation for the Escape Velocity series. Awesome games! I also adore Civilization III. It's the best turn-based strategy game on the market. Very addictive.

I pine for a number of old games, though these might be more from my OS 8.6 days:

That's it. That's all I needed. smiling smiley

(okay, I also had DOOM II and that red CD with 14 billion custom levels)

I've been offered ANY or ALL of the following for the price of shipping... I "could" ask him to just send the CD and the manuals to save on cost...

Sim Tower
Sim Ant
Sim Town
Sim Farm
Sim City 2000
Sim Earth
The Chessmaster 4000
Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego?
Command and Conquer
NASCAR Racing for Mac for 1996 season
Flight Unlimited
Word Munchers
A-10 Attack
Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Ver 2
Checkmate: The Finest Word in Chess
Castles: Siege and Conquer
King of Solitaire
Challenge 1 Smart Games
Comanche Mac
BrainQuest Multimedia (2 CDs)
FA-18 Hornet 2.0
BrainQuest 3rd Grade
Mac Arcade Pak
Wishbone and the Amazing Odyssey
Monopoly by MacPlay
Scrabble by MacPlay
Mario’s Game Gallery
Out of the Sun WWII airbattles
Thinking Things Collection 1
Flying Nightmares (Marines’ Harrier jet)
Flightstick Pro joystick

I think I want the following... Do you guys think I'm missing anything I should take? Shouldn't take? I've never totally been into the flight simulator, however, if I can hook up a USB game controller and set it up so my friends can shoot down enemy planes then it probably would be fun.

NASCAR Racing for Mac for 1996 season
King of Solitaire
A-10 Attack (Available on Macintosh Garden)
FA-18 Hornet 2.0 (Available on Macintosh Garden)
Castles: Siege and Conquer (Available on Macintosh Garden)
Thinking Things Collection 1
Mario’s Game Gallery
Mac Arcade Pak
Challenge 1 Smart Games

I'm considering these however, I think I might pass... Some might be good for my son however, he's not even 1 so by the time he would be interested, he'll want a faster computer...

BrainQuest 3rd Grade
BrainQuest Multimedia (2 CDs)
Wishbone and the Amazing Odyssey
Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Ver 2

Also, I have one guy that has the following...

Shadow Warrior still in the box
YDKJ Vols 1-4, no original box.

What are they worth? I wouldn't mind having 1-2 YDKJ's... and Shadow Warrior is basically Duke Nukem but w/ a ninja?

Also, I think between these and the "free" games I should be good for now... However, are any of the following good games that I really should consider to keep friends busy? If so, let me know what I should offer...

Voyager: Elite Force
Heavy Metal: FAKK
Unreal Tournament

Here is the configuration on the system...

B&W G3 - 450 Mhz (overclocked to 500 MHz)
9.2.2 (I do have 10.3.9 installed... but right now I'm only using 9.2.2)
384 Megs of ram (will bump this to 512+ soon)
9 Gigs + 18 Gigs + 18 Gigs (UltraWide SCSI drives)
DVD Drive (I have a Combo drive from my G5 that I might install)
ATI Xclaim VR 128 w/ TV Tuner (not using the tv tuner) but I'm mirroring it to a 27" TV via S-Video
ATI Xclaim VR 128 (factory)
Built in Zip
External Jazz Drive (Not that useful however, I can at least recover any old data)

I don't have a floppy, so, if any of these games only work w/ a floppy I will need to pickup a USB floppy or borrow one from a friend...
