"Could not activate cellular data network"

We upgraded my wife's iPad 2 to IOS 6 so we could try out the new Maps. Of course, we also purchased a month of Verizon cellular data. Her iPad worked just fine a year ago when we did this under IOS 5, but now she got a "Could not activate cellular data network" message. We tried restarting. We tried turning Cellular Data off and on. Nothing helped. She would get Verizon 3G for just a few seconds after a restart, then nothing.

Anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks in advance.

I can't get Verizon coverage anywhere in town, and you have to be on Verizon to activate. I can get Verizon's network here at work though. So, anytime I've needed to activate a Verizon phone or whatever , I bring it to work (or drive out north of town if I'm off). Verizon did finally get the upper hand with dealing with Chat Mobility (they were keeping them out), and supposedly Verizon LTE will be activated sometime after Christmas.

Activating Verizon phone service requires better coverage than what you need to make a call.

So you think if we take it to Des Moines we'll be able to activate it?

If you go to Orient you'd be able to activate. We are just 3 miles north of town and I can activate devices out here.

Also, you could resetting the Network settings in the General options of the Settings app.

None of these things worked. We went to Des Moines today, and tried activating there. No luck. Went to the Apple store, and got help, but they couldn't activate it either. They told us that the cellular radio was shot, and that they would sell us a new iPad 2 for $250. We didn't do it. The wifi part works just fine, and that's what we use most. I don't know if we made a poor choice or not. What do you think? Don't know what to do. If we bought a new iPad 3 we would be able to sell the old one for something.

What would you do?

If the cell radio is shot AND you think you may need it, then now is the best time to sell. And buy an iPad 3

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

What would you do?

I'd back it up, reset it and install the latest firmware.

(I don't trust "Geniuses" to accurately diagnose anything.)

If that doesn't work then, yeah. I'd sell it and get the device that I wanted.
