Macworld/iWorld registration is live...

...but I may pass this year.

$25 is nothing really, but it irks me that we are now expected to pay for the privilege of offering vendors the opportunity to sell us something or sell us on something.

There is generally no free option as there were in years past unless a vendor has passes to share.

The amount just feels wrong to me, something like the feeling people have when they believe that the miniPad should sell for $99. Ok, maybe not like that.

For me, $10 will be palatable, though I'd like the Early Bird free registration to be reinstated. I may cave anyway. I always have a good time.

Just don't tell IDG.

Wish I lived close enough to spend $25 on Macworld.

I skipped it last year for the first time in over a decade.

It hasn't been the same show since Apple pulled out. IDG acknowledged that when they rechristened it iWorld, but the landscape was clearly changing even before that.

Personally, it doesn't have the same attraction for me now, but a fair number still attend.

Meh.

And plenty of people pay $$$ for clothes that are not much more than an ad for the store they bought them at.

They still have classes/sessions. 'Might do the trip if I can convince my boss that the training is beneficial.

I pretty much just go out of habit at this point since it's so close. Still kind of fun but certainly not what it used to be. Oh well.

Macworld used to be a week long coming out party / bargain hunt / theater of the geeky, annoying, absurd and thrilling / party with good friends from literally around the world. Sadly, no more. Attrition crept in the last few years, and last year most stayed home. I made one last pilgrimage, just to give the old girl one last look see, but barring some miraculous revival (It's Tim Cook's era, so nothing is impossible), it looks like I'm done.

Nothing lasts forever. Via con dios iWorld.

Same here, attended last year one last time in hopes of finding some justification but no joy, just a wasted day and ride on bart. Nothing lasts forever and change is the new mantra. Will miss the yearly show that I used to look forward to, but not worth attending any longer.
