Hope everyone has a great holiday! I'm driving to Michigan (3rd time in 9 weeks. I need to have my head examined...) to spend Thanksgiving with great family friends. Thrilled the weather is cooperating and it should be an easy trip.

As always, I'm thankful to be part of this great community. Thanks to all of you for making this a great place and thanks to our gracious hosts. Your hard work is appreciated!

Dinner in West Bloomfield tonight, then maybe breakfast tomorrow in Royal Oak. Got a good rate a dog-friendly hotel in Livonia, so staying there tonight.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! What's everybody cooking?? I'm going to some friends' house and there will be 17 of us at dinner. I'm in charge of making the cornbread and I'm taking some savoury roasted sweet potatoes that I randomly thought up last weekend.

Cornbread recipe I use is this one and I add a wee bit more sugar to it: [allrecipes.com]

For the sweet potatoes, I roasted them with onion, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, salt and olive oil. That was so unexpectedly delicious and warm. Each bite was so gratifying. I think I roasted them at 400F for about an hour. I'm going to start skinning potatoes now so I can get them out the oven before we have to leave here at 1pm.

I'm also taking my new boyfriend with me who's Scottish living in Belgium. He's visiting for 3 months and will see all the American winter holidays. I've been explaining Thanksgiving to him since we first started dating last November. Every time, he understands a little bit more and I remind him why it's my favourite holiday: friends, food and no gifts.

Happy Turkey Day everyone.

I don't eat meat, or poultry, anymore, but I always liked the side dishes better anyway.

We are going to my mother-in-laws, so no cooking for me, YEA!

My daughter won't be here this year, she is working at Walt Disney World helping make it a 'magical' day for thousands of other people, but we will be going to see her on Monday of next week. One of her co-workers is cooking a big spread for her and several others, so she will get a good home cooked meal, too.

We were at the inflation last night with the yoots (ages 12 and 8). Like a lot of things in NY, I'm glad we did it, but I never want to do it again.

Don't get me started about New Year's Eve anywhere near Times Square...this I do not recommend to anyone, tourist or otherwise.

Happy Thanksgiving. We're spending the day at Disneyland! We'll find out how crowded it is...

Just me and Dr Janie here today. Kids and grandkids are elsewhere this year. So it's quiet. We spent some time this morning delivering Thanksgiving meals to shut-ins (local restaurant owners host a Thanksgiving feed every year for the poor and infirm). Nothing like the years when the kids were here and made "all nine kinds of pie that Harold liked best."

Nice sunny day, so we'll do a little yard work this afternoon, and maybe find a pizza this evening.

Actually, Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure weren't that crowded (compared to peak summer). Disneyland was getting more crowded as the day went on and it seemed as if Disney's California Adventure was getting less crowded (we went back and forth several times during the day)...

Ditto dman! Too tired to type much on iPod touch - wife very sick today but cooked venison steak a neighbor brought by this morning. Thanks! It was great. Be safe everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We had a very juicy bird. It was in brine before cooking. So soft and juicy, you could cut it with a plastic fork.

Most definitely with what dmann said! Plus, we are thankful to be safely back at home, although I-75 and the Fla. Turnpike weren't nearly so bad as I expected.

My father still had his Navy-issued peacoat, from 1943. And now my son is taking it for the cold NYC winter—he will be both the warmest and coolest young man in Brooklyn!
