USB 3 to Firewire 800??

I was looking at the specs on a Toshiba 2.5" external drive today. It has a single USB 3.0 connection, and the box said it could connect to Firewire 800 with a cable which would need to be "purchased separately ".

But I'm not seeing any such cable available anywhere online. Does such a cable actually exist??

I don't know about the FW 800 cable but you can get a USB 3.0 to 2.0 cable whatever. USB 3.0 has backward compatibility to USB 2.0.

EDIT: go to Monoprice.com and see what they have. IF they don't have it then it probably isn't made yet.

I think the box lied....
There's no such adapter that I'm aware of.

Unless it was a seagate drive. They have interchangeable ports that connect to the drive. I like the idea but wish seagate had better reliability.

Probably Seagate. I've had some good recent success with their externals and even swapped around some drives with different USB2 vs USB3 connectors.

My experience with Seagate and FW has historically been poor. My one recent positive exception is their simple FW800 to SATA dongle that I'm using with an SSD as a boot drive for my iMac.

... And it starts. Apple users start to pay for the companies hardheadedness in adopting a standard 2-1/2 years late.

DeusxMac, if you do not mind voiding the warranty, see if your local BestBuy has any Seagate FW800-to-SATA GoFlex adapters left. If they do, crack the Toshiba case and hook up the adapter. The only other options are to buy an empty FW800 case, Quad Interface Dock, or buy a complete FW800 drive.

I didn't buy; just surprised by the statement and illustration on the box that indicated such a cable even existed.
