Magic Mouse Loosing Track?

i've used my Magic Mouse on a black mouse pad for the last two years. a few days ago it wouldn't track on the pad. i figured it was dirty. for a while MM tracked fine on my bare desk top. it's a painted over interior door so it's not exactly smooth. now it's not tracking well on the bare desk. i washed the black pad; MM won't track on it AT ALL.

what's going on? it wasn't gunky but i cleaned it anyway. used a q tip on the glass sensor. still acting funky and i can't figure out why. for now i'm using a sheet of glossy photo paper. it works but things just aren't smooth like they used to be. what else can i check?

The only thing I can get my MM to track correctly on is a cloth covered mouse pad.

Try cleaning the lenses with a q-tip or something!

Try the back of a hardcover book or a legal pad then.

Something that's not very reflective.

hmmm. the stiff back on a paper pad seems to work okay. for now. batteries are fresh, btw.

If it returns, I'm with M>B>, try a corded mouse.

I've always had good control with the MM. Corded mice, now that's a different story. My corded ones will sometimes dance all over the place, probably some incipient logic board problem; hopefully not a problem you are experiencing. One Mac was under AppleCare and corded mice control was only regained after the main logic board was replaced.
