Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad?

which one do you like best?

I ordered a Bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse on Black Friday, but I start to have second thoughts about the mouse, maybe I should have ordered a trackpad instead.

I guess it's a personal choice. On apple's site the magic trackpad seems to have better reviews than the mouse.

did you try both? which one do you like more?

Thanks

I have the mouse and like it. Haven't tried the Track Pad yet.

Yes, it is a personal preference. Have fun second-guessing yourself for the next couple of years...

Depends upon the height of the desk.

I tend to enjoy mousing more than trackpadding when my forearms arms are at rest more than 3-4 inches higher than my elbows.

I love the Magic Trackpad. It's great for gestures.

I find using the Magic Mouse very un-ergonomic.

I like the scrolling part of the Magic Mouse but I have trouble with knowing where my fingertips are at. It would have
been nice to have a small dimple or something on each side so I wouldn't right click instead of left click so much.

Like bhaveshp said it's not very ergonomic.

They are quite different. There was a MacLife article comparing last year or so.

Their results were the same as mine. The Magic Mouse is a nice input device that works similar to a scroll wheel mouse but accepts some gestures.

The Magic Trackpad gives you full gestures.

I find the Magic Trackpad takes too much effort to push down to be comfortable. But I'm sensitive to such things and have carpal tunnel that is in remission - but appears with awkward input devices.

In contrast, I find the Magic Mouse to be easy to use and is my go-to input device in my travel bag.

I have both. The Trackpad is on the left side of the keyboard. The mouse is on the right side. I alternate between the two. Favor the mouse with the right hand, though.

Actually, I replaced Apple's mouse with an Evoluent Mouse. I prefer the more "neutral" position that my right hand and forearm are in with Evoluent's design.

It's nice to switch off and use the Trackpad with the left hand every once in a while. Relieves the strain of constantly mousing with the right.

Should explain that I'm left-handed, so using the Trackpad on the left side (with the left hand) didn't involve a lot of getting used.

Sometimes I switch out the Evoluent to use Apple's Magic Mouse for a while. Haven't had any serious RSI yet, though I do spend a lot of time typing and mousing.

Will also occasionally use the Trackpad in my lap. It's a bit odd to "click" the trackpad by pushing on one of the rubber bumpers, but do-able.

Am not as fast with the Trackpad as I am with either mouse.

I'm left handed, but I learned to mouse with my right....

When I do use a trackpad (on my old Wallstreet) I would find myself using my right hand for most things, but the left for really fine control (drawing, etc).

I've got a Magic Mouse and I liked it, but I quit using it because it ate through batteries too quickly. Wish they would make a USB version.

Here's one article briefly comparing ergonomics.

I can't seem to find the one that talks about the different feel of the two devices.

I have both, and I almost never use the Magic Trackpad. I love the gestures and scrolling on the Magic Mouse, but I'm stumped as to the reason it has sharp edges. Seems that rounded edges would have been so much more comfortable.

I have both as well. I use the Magic Mouse. I find the trackpad much more difficult to click. I know there are some trackpad settings for tap to click but I would have to spend the time to get comfortable with the trackpad. Since I use a mouse at work, it is easier to stick with a mouse at home. As for gestures, they still work with the Magic Mouse.

Also, moving the cursor with the trackpad is tedious. With the magic mouse, one can move the cursor by moving one's hand instead of repeatedly moving one's fingers over the trackpad.

I thought I needed the trackpad (or maybe both too) since upgrading to Lion. But I ended with the mouse, and after using it for a couple of months now - I'm quite happy just with the mouse (and likely wouldn't use the trackpad at all). I say save the money and stick with just the Magic Mouse.
