OMG ! RUSH ! BOOYAH !

Rush probably never would have made without the fan vote. These awards organizations hate progressive rock.

Does anyone know why they don't just induct without nomination? Not enough "space" in the Hall? I don't get why there's all the unnecessary drama.

Take an old band like Rush or Heart for example. Let's say neither makes it in, but they do make it in later. Does that mean their influence, success or appreciation has somehow grown since 2013?

List needs more prog rock.

RUSH 2112.

The hall is now kinda like the Kennedy Center Awards; for an entire body of work, rather than just a couple of great songs or an album. Do enough good stuff, for long enough, and the groundswell of support mat get you the nod. Went to see Heart a few years back at a not-terribly-handicapped-friendly venue, so their solution was to put us gimpy folks in the area between the stage and the front row. Way too close for comfort; had to move off to the side, a few feet back into the access tunnel to tolerate it w/o earplugs. Had front row center to Metallica/Gn'R at the Rose Bowl back when, so knew in advance to bring earplugs.

Note: always bring earplugs to rock concerts... just in case the "silent " upgrade really means just the opposite.

Not that I care about the Rock Hall, it is good to see Public Enemy getting in.

There's a town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland called Rock Hall. I was confused by this headline for a second.

Where the RRHF is concerned, ONE prog band would be "more." No Yes. No ELP. No Crimson. OK, Genesis in 2010 but they had long left prog behind.

I don't know what they have against Yes. They sold a boatload of records- made prog "safe" for radio- and sold out stadiums and large halls consistently throughout the '70s and have come back regularly- (admittedly to varying effect) since.

I can't imagine RUSH not being in there. They are an iconic band, I think of them along with other greats like The Who, Jimmy Hendrix, Led Zeppelin etc.

I haven't dug through the list, but it seems to me in order to be honored in this way a musician or band has to have had some sort of tangeable influence on future musicians and musical developments-- as in, it's hard to imagine what music would be like if they never existed. No offense to Rush fans (I could scream 2112 all the way through from memory when I was 15) but I don't see that sort of influence in the current list of nominees.

That would be a pretty short list.

See the 2010 documentary "Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage" to get an idea of thier influence.

If a band gets nominated, does everyone who has ever been in the band get the honor? I'm thinking former band members for example. Or new-ish ones for that matter.

I think there is a story of CCR getting inducted and the former drummer and bass player getting blocked from going on stage. (John Fogarty's brother, the rhythm guitarist had died.) I couldn't find it on Google.

Not in: Kiss, Cheap Trick, Moody Blues, Deep Purple, Peter Gabriel, ELO, etc.

For me, it's hard to imagine a world in which the Beastie Boys or Erik B. and Rakim have a more far-reaching influence than any of the above.

I think it's just a Hall of Fame. Like football's or baseball's. You just have to be good/famous/unforgettable to be nominated. Don't over think this, folks.

Frankly, I think the athletes were encouraged, too, until it got found out.
