Need Digital Camera Recommendations

I'm looking to buy about 50 digital cameras for a classroom program that is easy to use. They want a camera that will also do a good job at shooting video clips as well. I prefer to stick with the Canon brand as that is what we buy throughout the district keeping support consistent.

I proposed the Canon A620 but the feedback I got was they want a camera that has a battery with a "re-charger", and also does not have the flip out screen because kids would be hard on that. They also said I could spend a little more money. I looked through the Canon line (I didn't look at the digital elph's which I like because I think there is some concern with them being so small they can disappear) and haven't found anything.

I'm open to all suggestions and recommendations.

The SONY W1 would be great as well. 640x480 @ 30fps video with sound.

It's easy to use, and uses 2 AA batteries, making it easy to power.

I think what you're saying is that they want one that plugs directly in to a charger to charge--with its own battery pack, right? Not loose batteries of any kind that need to be swapped out, right?

Need more parameters:

used by _________ (age group)

used for ___________(purpose)

used with __________(output - online/internet, print media, multi-purpose)

budget _________ (either per unit or the total budget)

Remember that batteries or power packs and memory cards will significantly boost the per unit price … also, factor in some kind of protection for each camera - hard cases will probably be needed and cost more than soft cases.

for such a large quantity, you may be able to get a discount, not sure if BB or CC do that, but give BHPhoto and Adorama a call, maybe you get a good deal like pay 45 and get 50, or they throw in a SD card for each camera, or at least an extra protection, or a soft case. You should be able to get something for such a large order.

If you think kids would be hard on a flip-out screen ( which I agree with ) how do you think they'll fare with a charger or plugging / unplugging to a jack on the camera ?

And what happens when they pop out that expensive proprietary battery and dump it in the __________________ ( fill in the blank ) ?

Relatively cheap and readily available AA's seem more practical, given that Murphy's law will not be taking a vacation anytime soon.

If you can find some A510's or A520's, they might work for you.

I speak from experience here.

PM me if you'd like some suggestions that would help out in the field.
