What was the final verdict on RadioShark?
Posted by: $tevie

Remember all the anticipation about RadioShark? At long last it finally became available, and with that all the noise died away. I am assuming it proved to be not-so-hot? Or was it simply a case of the anticipation being more exciting than the reality?

Amazon reviews are all over the place, with the net result being a not really impressive three stars:

This is what made me think of it, by the way:

I use one everyday. It's exactly what it says...records radio programs.

Reception isn't as good as bfd thinks it should be, even with external antennae attached. It's been located in several different parts of campus and here at home, and the reception (same signal strength) is not nearly as good as a portable radio. The record feature, however, is worth something, and it's not difficult to use.

Got one as a gift when they came out. I had high hopes but reception in my neighborhood is spotty for what I wanted to record (NPR). Make an offer.

I just recorded a sample from mine. This is 2 feet below ground level in a basement, too. Suburb.

You have to click couple of pages to find the download at the bottom of the second page probably. But, that's how it sounds and I am not near the transmitter.

Mine works just fine and I am 40 miles from my NPR station.

Use external antenna and had to fiddle with its placement a bit.

I is used for time shifting and archiving some programs, Like, Car Talk!!!

Get the latest software form Griffen, what it originally shipped with, well, sucked!!!

I record AAC files as they are smaller and can open them in iTunes and save them as MP3's and burn to CD's and listen to them on a MP3 player in car!!!

Has anyone listened to my sample? Comments? I think it sounds perfectly acceptable. I don't expect High Def from a radio, though.

I think, judging by Jp!'s sample, that RadioShark is probably worth it for what I want to do.
