I agree. Why would you want them private?

If you don't want people to see what you've been buying. Seems pretty silly to not just set up a separate account for potentially embarrassing items, though.

You can have 2 Paypal accounts, and unlimited ebay accounts. I have 5 of the latter. As long as the ebay accounts don't interact with each other, and all remain in good standing, it's perfectly acceptable.

If you want to see what the seller has been selling, and you can't tell from feedback, you can still check 30-day sales history. Just do an advanced search on the seller name and select completed listings.
