It doesn't sound exactly like what he suggested for Apple, though. I thought the immplication was that Apple should just go out of business.

Well, Dell has been on that trajectory for years now...

Life is tough when you're a seller in a purely competitive market.

In other words, Dell was essentially selling ordinary produce - commodities - at the farmers market.

Apple on the other hand, is selling organic free range products..

If they flat out squash Dell/Ubuntu it will be seen as anti-competitive. If they let it continue, but hold the $2b over Dell's head, they can actually influence the direction of Ubuntu through Dell - which is a much more powerful card to have up your sleeve.
