Exactly what I want in my quad Mini. But I'm too cheap.

I'm really really trying not to buy that 500G Sammy SSD…

Pretty good deal!

I think it's actually been a little lower recently, but I'm not sure.

The Crucial M4 512G at $320 is what I'm waiting for.

B&H has the drive alone for $50 less than newegg. But they don't sell RAM, as far as I can tell. So if the RAM cost more than $74, I'd say you got a good deal.

Yes they do. If you use Newegg code EMCXTXM23 it brings it down to $279.99
The memory was $73.93

I got a 2GB Quantum 7200RPM Atlas U2WSCSI for $399 w/o any RAM, and I thought I got a heck of a deal when the next best price at the time was $469.
Then a couple of months later they dropped to $299.
Deals, especially computer deals, are time sensitive.

You are going to be so thrilled with your performance that after 5 minutes you're not going to care whether you got a deal.

Have you thought about getting a computer to put them in?

Just ordered a 17" Macbook pro 2.5 i7 quad core
My old 17" is falling apart. It is 4 1/2 years old and was a free replacement from Apple For a 2205 model that they couldn't repair.
I figured I got my moneys worth on the old one
My only regret on the new one is I will be pulling out a 750 gig 7200 rpm drive to put the ssd in

Perish the thought.

First, as mentions, the speed of the SSD will knock your socks off.
Second, get a USB3 (or USB2) enclosure and put that drive in it.
Third, sell the drive if you don't want to bother with an external.

You would be pretty hard pressed for storage to have any misgivings once you start using SSDs.

Do yourself a favor-- try the MBP with that "fast" 7200 RPM drive for a while before swapping in the SSD. 7200 RPM will mean very little to you afterwards...

I would guess the loss of half the storage was the bigger deal, not the spinning platter speed.

The difference between the 500GB factory spinner and the 750GB factory spinner in the MBP's was pretty substantial, the difference between the 5400 & 7200RPM 750GB's in the MBP's was pretty negligible... the difference between a decent SSD and any of the spinners is mind blowingly, orders of magnitude, well, mind blowing... which makes the "fast" 7200RPM 750GB drive available to use in a data doubler...

250 GB is half of 750 GB?
