Sad news about Greg
Posted by: dmann
Date: March 12, 2013 09:39AM
I am sorry to bring sad news to our little corner of cyberspace. Last night our friend Greg the Dogsitter passed away after a battle with ALS. We all know Greg had a wicked and unique sense of humor, an unlimited love for dogs (and cats!) and a healthy appreciation for women. He was smart and funny and brought a unique perspective to even the most mundane situation. He will be missed terribly by those who loved him and I know the loss will be felt here by those he never met.

Feel free to post your memories, photos and thoughts here. I'll be sharing this thread with Greg's family.

Greg was a hell of a guy. He has served, and will continue to serve, as an example of the type of person I want to be. May wherever he now finds himself abound with women and wuppies.

It is what it is.

Thanks for the post dmann. Greg is one of the earliest people I remember after first joining the DM forum many years ago. He was funny, irreverent, silly, and even philosophical at times. Clicking on a Greg thread was almost always a treat and a day brightener. We certainly mourn his family and friends loss, but we will always remember him as a serious force of silliness that gave us all a reason to laugh and often a reason to think. Thanks Greg .... good boy!

Very sad, although not unexpected.

What do we do for a memorial?

Chase women, be kind to critters. Best memorial I can think of.

Like you said, not unexpected, but still unpleasant news. sad smiley

I'm not a heavy user of personal messages but got a few from Greg over the years, usually as a private response to a public post I made here or on the Political side. And they were always special and thoughtful, like Greg. I'm sure many of you have a similar set of messages and other memories.

"Thank you ..." No, Greg, thank you.

For those that don't know, Greg goes way back to the beginning and was a contributor to what this forum is today. There is a lot to remember from watching him get married online to seeing me off on a layover at LAX before I took the next big step in my life. He was a contributor to the forum and our lives.

I like to believe that he is walking my departed dog and free from the painful constraints of this earthly life. I hope hope his family can be comforted by the good memories as they reflect on his life.

A 21 Wuppie salute to you Greg.

I am saddened by the passing of Gregg. I am relieved to know that dmann has posted his passing.

I hope that all the members of the forum have added the notification of cyber friends of their death to the list of things to do.

Ah yes, the wedding! Only 6 years ago. I went back and read the posts. I seem to do that with someones passing. Looking back to the good times that were shared.

RIP Gregg.

Sad indeed. As others have mentioned, he was often funny and uplifting. Even some of his battles with software he made humorous. I know the last few years haven't been the easiest for him, but even after that he seemed to keep his chin up. Will be missed.

As one of Greg's Facebook Friends, I've been following his life as he struggled with communicating and continued to toss the middle finger towards ALS, and share his sustained sense of the absurd with the world. Greg was ... a mensch. Very much so.

And as proof, here's one of his latter photos from Facebook, demonstrating that he kept his sense of silly humor to the end.

In general, you can say "May his memory be for a blessing." Of course, any words of comfort sincerely expressed are most welcomed. As for memorials, I think the "Pet dogs, love women (or men, or both), have fun" mantra is perfect.

Flowers are not usually sent, rather people make donations to a cause/organization chosen by the person or their family. Sometimes, they will ask you make a donation to YOUR favorite charity.

dmann, Greg was unforgettable. I hadn't seen anything from him on Facebook during the last couple of weeks, and was wondering what his condition was. Now I know. I'm saddened to hear this. :-(

Would that we all could depart the world with his attitude.

Going way back, I remember when Greg used to rotate photos of his dog customers as his sig; I think he had a little caption identifying each as his current client or something like that. That's way the heck back on deal chat so it's been a while. I got a kick out of those photos.

I can't help but ponder how it was just a couple of years back that MacGurl Kathy died and now Greg is gone, both taken by very different but equally cruel illnesses. I've learned more about the human condition from them.

Very sad, Greg RIP.
I remember years ago, when he first appeared at DM, I was talking about IP over firewire, Greg, who i didn't know, emailed me the drivers. That was before they were publicly released. I was sworn to secrecy...
Very helpful friendly man, you will be missed.
