You know, NPR hosts never look like their voice sounds.

I listened occasionally to hear how academics felt about issues. Every caller seemed like a teacher or professor.

And, they all sound like the same guy to me. I wonder if they all use the same kind of mic, or if they all go through a common setting to make them all sound similar.

Science Friday will remain I heard.

They said there was a "glut" of these kinds of shows. No you idiots, NPR was a juggernaut of real news and information. Nothing else came close. Now I bet you'll soften it up and have crap on like TV does - personal interest stories.

That's too bad. I like that show. I'd rather see Diane Rehm's show go away.

Move the thread over....

There shouldn't be any reason to move this over. It's not a political topic, except for Weapon and billb being unable to resist expressing their disdain for NPR. Although ToTN sometimes deals with political topics, it isn't an expressly political show.

Leave the thread where it is and remove Weapon's and billb's posts.

Same smug "cleverness" as posts like, "Who is Lindsay Lohan?" on the opposite side of the spectrum.

Diane Rehm's voice condition makes it really hard to listen to. But the guests and discussion are great. Much better than other talk radio on at the same time.

When I saw the thread title, the first thing I thought was how quickly it will become political regardless...

It's ok with me. I thought the show was fair at best. Personally, fill that air with another NPR show and I'd be just fine.

It suffers from the same problem any in-depth news program suffers from, radio or TV; if you're interested in the topic being discussed or investigated, it's great, if you're not, it's tedious and you turn it off.

They're catering to the lowest-common-denominator is what they're doing.

The show that they hope affiliates replace ToN with is Here and Now which is actually a very well done show. I think it will only get better when it is expanded to a two hour frame especially with additional support from NPR resources. The format is not headline news, but is a news magazine where they take a bit longer to unwind stories in depth. They also return to stories from time to time to update which is nice.

Yeah, I'm fine with this programing decision...

Hardlybarely political if you have a clue, or want one.
