The caulk is out (sorry ladies). The gap is 1/2 maybe 3/4 inch deep. 1/4 wide in the middle of the tub, and about 1/16 at the left and right sides. The tiles are ceramic, the tub is that fiberglass I guess. What's best to fill this? Silicone or something else? Do I need to add some material, I read that when the gap is too large you can put in some filler rods.

BTW, solvent didn't seem to help, but that oscillating tool blade was magic.

So, instead of soaking cork you beat it ?
A high frequency hummer style beating ?



Soft pliable flexible caulk rules the crack.

Usually sticks best to a clean very not-oily surfaces.

Poly rods are available at HD/Lowes for filling the cracks. Then fill with your choice of caulk.

it is called backer rod. Might be easier to find.

It didn't, and even it if did, it would be under the caulk line so no big deal.
