F/U to the 25-year-old caulk thread

The caulk is out (sorry ladies). The gap is 1/2 maybe 3/4 inch deep. 1/4 wide in the middle of the tub, and about 1/16 at the left and right sides. The tiles are ceramic, the tub is that fiberglass I guess. What's best to fill this? Silicone or something else? Do I need to add some material, I read that when the gap is too large you can put in some filler rods.

BTW, solvent didn't seem to help, but that oscillating tool blade was magic.

So, instead of soaking cork you beat it ?
A high frequency hummer style beating ?

Soft pliable flexible caulk rules the crack.

Usually sticks best to a clean very not-oily surfaces.

Poly rods are available at HD/Lowes for filling the cracks. Then fill with your choice of caulk.

Saw this subject line and thought "Wow! Has this board been around long enough for one of the threads to be 25 years old?" Then I read it again and realized I'm an idiot.

Very interesting on your experience with the vibrating tool thingy... How did you keep it from scratching up the tub ?

It didn't, and even it if did, it would be under the caulk line so no big deal.
