Time Machine Disk Problem

My TM is not no longer mounted. It's a WD 1.5 TB usb external. Disk Utility shows it and after doing "repair disk" I get the following report;

Verifying and repairing partition map for “WD Ext HDD 1021 Media”
Checking prerequisites
Checking the partition list
Adjusting partition map to fit whole disk as required
Checking for an EFI system partition
Checking the EFI system partition’s size
Checking the EFI system partition’s file system
Checking all HFS data partition loader spaces
Reviewing boot support loaders
Checking Core Storage Physical Volume partitions
Updating Windows boot.ini files as required
The partition map appears to be OK

Yet, the drive does not mount. I've restarted both the drive and the computer. Suggestions? Is the drive shot?

Thanks.

EDIT:
When I go back to Disk Utility and select the dimmed Time Machine Volume the report says:
"invalid content in journal"
Whoa?

Disk Utility took an hour to repair the volume and now it's mounted and seems to be working.

Thanks for all the help.:fawkdance:

I have a Time Machine hard drive attached via an Airport base station. I've had a couple instances over the last couple years where that drive picked up corruption, but Disk Utility manages to bring it back. It's been about six months since the last flakeout. I think it may stem from an interruption in the network (power flicker or other disturbance in the ethernet force) during a write sequence.

Aced--I think you hit the nail right on the head.
