Naïve iPhone Questions

(1) Does the iPhone automatically default to wireless when it can connect to a wireless network?

(2) Are the screen protectors really needed, and do they interfere with touch commands?

My iPhone 5 does default to wifi if wifi is selected in settings. If there's no wifi, than LTE is used if available or 3G if it's not.

I've never used screen protectors. They work, but in my view never look quite right. A case with a raised edge protects the screen from most scrapes--YMMV.

If you use a screen protector, which I do, ake sure that it is one that is not rubbery, more like a hard plastic mylar to allow easy sliding. .

1) Yes, if you have WiFi turned on.
2) I hate screen protectors. Unless you really abuse your phone, I do not think they are necessary.

the iPhone will automatically default to wireless if it's a network you have previously joined. if it's a new network you have to manually seek and join it. you can have it set to always search for new networks but that really drains the battery and the constant prompts are annoying.

i used a protector for almost a year. it got crappy looking so i dropped it. i decided i like the phone better without it and have happily gone commando for two years. screen still looks new.

If applied correctly you can barely see the screen protector. They don't impact function at all. They're not really necessary though unless you store your phone in a bag of rusty nails.

Doesn't everyone carry rusty nails in their pocket??

The iPhone's screen has an oleophobic coating to help diminish visible fingerprints from hand oils.

Here's the Apple technical specs on it:

Screen protectors do not have this, and instead make the screen much more prone to finger prints. Though apparently you can add it back yourself.

I used to always use screen protectors (a track record of issues with plastic screens from Palm PDAs), but when Apple went with this nice coating, I've never looked back.

I DO, however, have a case with an edge to prevent me from dropping my iPhone screen-first.

I use a screen protector, Zagg shield I think. I don't notice it during use,, but yes, if I have oily fingers it'll make a sort of rainbow smudge. I am very rough on my iPod. You joke about rusty nails but wood screws and rocks aren't uncommon in my pockets. I started using a screen protector after scratching the bejesus out of an iPod screen.

I've used a number of screen protectors and found they are tacky and sticky to the touch. Then I found the Ultra Clear protector from Skinomi and it's like nothing is there.mhighly recommended.

Thanks, for the responses—

I just looked at the Skinomi link, and while the average is 4 stars, there are a lot of 1-star reviews. So I think I'll hold off for now. I don't intend to carry the iPhone in a pocket with rusty nails, rocks, or screws. I'm thinking of a belt holster, actually; things do sometimes fall out of my vest or shirt pockets. I wish my new Belkin case (which I like) had a clip that would secure it in a pocket.

While I've got you—

Can you have more than one email account on an iPhone? I don't intend to use iCloud email, as I have my own domain and Zoho account, but I'd like to access more than one user email account, e.g. X@Domain.com, Y@Domain.com, etc. Possible?

I have a few email accounts on my 'Phone, no problems.

When sending an email from any account, you want to check to see your From address is the one you expect to see.
