I have a 1 hour video I need to send to a friend.
What is the best way to transfer it to him?
To large for Flickr. The file is 5.3 gigs

mailing it in some form will likely be the fastest, unless both you and your friend have super-fast internet connections or are willing to endure what would likely be a multi-day upload and multi-hour download process.

I just used Dropbox to share a 50-minute video that is 1.16 GB. It took hours to upload.

One of the recipients was in Japan, so it was faster than regular mail (from the USA).

If you have a 1Mbps upload bandwidth, it'll take about 12 hours to transfer 5GB.

You don't mention what the person needs to do with the video file. Do they just want to watch it or do they need to edit it? If it's the former, I'd handbrake to convert it to an mp4 at the lowest acceptable bitrate. Many 700MB divx files are of surprisingly good quality. You can upload 700MB in about 2 hours @ 1Mbps via FTP or dropbox.

wetransfer.com has a 2GB limit for the free version and 5GB for the pro.
If, like Wailer suggests, it's just for viewing I'd convert it first.

I just use DropBox for all sorts of video sharing with my family now. With the sort of bonus free space that was available recently, I have a 10GB limit!

cheers

I'd make an mp4 version and use Dropbox. It'll be less than 1 GB.

Handbrake is a free app to do the conversion.

Otherwise, USB thumb drive.

Convert to mp4 and transfer direct via Skype.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
sticker on my head and call it a day.
