Rental Car Savings, need help

WIfe is going from the Los Angeles, or Long Beach area, to Oakland, California and back home again, next weekend. Too late to book a flight at a reasonable price.

I did some research on enterprise, and see that if I choose too short of a time, the airport will have no cars available., but if I choose the local non airport site they are closed on Sunday.

Are there any discounts I can get anywhere, say Autoclub, etc?

Or are there any tricks to keeping the cost down, by picking up and returning at a certain time.

I was going to say Amtrak, but man, that'd eat up two days... though just about the same time as driving. Worth a thought, though. Depends on where she needs to be when.

if she's adventurous there's always Megabus for about $66 tops round trip.

Are your cars not reliable enough?

Oh, and call them, dont just go by the web site. Enterprise at LAX has about a billion cars.

Megabus can be a really good deal. My sons have used it (in Georgia & Tennessee, not California), and I think the buses had wi-fi. Sometimes they are crowded and sometimes not. You must make reservations online and pay ahead of time, which seemed safer than Greyhound to me, for some perhaps-not-totally-logical reason.

A young couple where I work traveled to Atlanta for a weekend (from Florida) for only $6.00. They were happy not to drive, and had more $ to spend on a good time and nice place to stay.

i've only recently come aware that Megabus was in Atlanta and checked on them just today. my son was delighted to learn that if he wanted to he could go visit his best friend in Ohio for $4 ROUND TRIP!

Megabus is cheap, but remember, the seats are smaller than an economy class airline seat and buses may offer unique smells and sounds not found on other modes of transportation.

Try Orbitz. I've found great rates there.

You can google XXXXX (car rental company) coupon, and will be shown multiple sites that have discount coupons.
