iPhone camera shutter button

IIRC several years ago there was an third party App where you could hack it to make it take pictures by pressing the volume button, like the shutter in a traditional camera. I think Apple kicked it off from the App store since it banned some rules. but now in iOS 6 (and maybe earlier?) you can do the same with the built-in Camera App. Seems like Apple is copying some features from developers that they banned before? this doesn't seem fair at all.

Perhaps there's more to it than that.

When sticky menus were added to MacOS it removed that 3rd party revenue available since System 7.

Apple will do whatever it wants to do if and when it feels the overall health of its products and those who creatively support it benefits.

I'm sure that dev felt the sting. But if it's one more piece to the puzzle that makes an iPhone more attractive, it means more people will buy it and go looking for new apps. Apps that dev can now have a wider market for.

Here's how I see it. Apple can occasionally eat their young to stay more competitive, or they sell plain products that do nothing much out of the box and compel the user go and load it up with 3rd party stuff for whatever becomes considered basic/competitive functionality.

FYI The app is called camera plus, and they made the correction, and have been very successful. Apple doesn't like it if people duplicate what they're doing, their excuse is, it creates confusion.

Of additional note, you can use any wired headphones that have volume control, and it will also activate the shutter when in camera mode by hitting the plus button. This works like a tethered remote shutter control.

It wasn't that Camera Plus duplicated something Apple was doing. The app got kicked out of the store temporarily because by reassigning the function of the volume button to be a shutter they violated the developer guidelines. The feature was removed, the app was put back on the store. Then Apple added this functionality to the OS and the everyone lived happily ever after smiling smiley
