Roxio Toast 11 for $50, only through FaceBook?!
Posted by: RAMd®d

Macworld magazine has an email offer, no code, for Toast 11 for $50.

You click a Get It Now link in the email and it takes you to Roxio. Read the Blah, Blah, click the Buy box and you're taken to a FB sign in page. WTF?

This is the third or forth deal I've seen that's basically an FB Only s
Deal. You can get TT 11 for $80 after MIR directly from Roxio.

What's the FB Only angle in all this? Is this Roxio's doing, FB, or both?

I see a lot of offers that can only be gotten by using Facebook. It's a deal-breaker for me. But I have seen other deals on Toast 11 in the past year. I got it on Amazon a while back for about $25, IIRC.

Buy an optical drive from us and save another $10 off those prices too.

Actually.. $44.99 and $64.99 stand alone... $39 and $59 with any other purchase... $29 and $49 with any optical purchase. Free delivery all the way.

Now, please don't misunderstand me to be saying that I endorse or even believe this notion: many Marketing Types are selling the idea that having plenty of Facebook fans is a very good thing. So a promotion like this is intended to get you to "like" their FB page. Then they go to their boss and/or client and say, Lookee here our FB fans have zoomed this month, no flies on us, eh?

I'm old school and my first question would be, so how did this result in heightened sales? I suppose there a fair amount of folks who will buy that deal without shopping around, but I can't see it putting their sales through the roof or anything. But these Marketing Types are selling smoke and they aren't worried about boring stuff like profits or market penetration.

I have seen a lot of Marketing that says "see us on Face Book", but not much Only on FB!

I will check out OWC's offer as I'd Al's like to rip my Blu-Rays to the HD.

Thanks for all the info.

The BD plug-in does not enable you to rip Blu-ray discs using Toast. It's for burning Blu-ray discs using Toast.

Try MakeMKV if you want to rip the discs (and assuming that you have the right hardware.)

If it asks for FB, then I shop elsewhere.

basically correct.

The HD plug-in allows you to burn/master Blu-Ray playable discs. Without the plug-in, you can still burn BD-ROM data discs, but not a Blu-Ray that will play in a standard blu-ray player.

It allows disc backup duplication - but isn't a ripping tool.
