Any point in jailbreaking original iPhone/iPhone 3G?
Posted by: (vikm)

Have never done the jailbreak thing. I'm not even sure which phone it is (I think it's a 3G). Is it even worth checking out and if so, any suggestions on the best method to use?

Alternately, I may choose to use it as a basic cat surveillance camera, if possible.

Thanks

edit: if it makes any difference, it's currently locked into ATT and hasn't been used for many a moon.

I used info from here.

I did it a couple of years ago and just sold it for $125.
YMMD.

We're all cheapskates at our house, and none of us are app hounds, so it's been worthwhile for me and my daughter's 1st Gen.s. Might do a third one for my wife too.Everything I know (a little) about jailbreaking I learned from iClarified.

"Any point in jailbreaking original iPhone/iPhone 3G?"

I struggle to think of any great reasons besides unlocking to raise the resale value. If the home button is broken, which is kind of common on old iphones, there are jailbreak apps that provide software substitutes.

I can't imagine paying anything for an original iPhone or 3G. iOS 3 is severely crippled these days when it comes to app support and iOS 4 on a 3G is an unusable disaster. I've seen 3GS for barely over $100.
