Why no Apple event so far in 2013?

Wouldn't we have seen one or two by now in the past?

In my case, I'm waiting for the new iPhone.

We might see something cool from Apple on Monday... But, I don't have high expectations (like I used to).

Paradigm change on a lot of levels.

Agreed, by now we would have seen new (or thoroughly refreshed) MacBook Pros (which have typically landed in the spring).

And double agreed on waiting on Haswell. I can't find the link to the article, but there was a great one out at one of the non-general computer magazine (i.e., not PC World or MacWorld IIRC) sites that went into detail as to why Haswell was the big trip switch for new MBPs and Mac Pros (and eventually Mac minis and iMacs).

Personally, I'm hoping for a Haswell MBP (at this point I don't care about Retina) and an updated Thunderbolt display that adds USB3 compatibility. (My current setup is an i7 MacBook Pro (17") hooked up to a Thunderbolt Display.)

What is sad, Apple is not going to have a computer that can properly drive a 4k display until next year.

Intel has been doing a much better job with integrated graphics. Apple is going to have to step up the discrete graphics to only a year behind everybody else if they want to have something better than the Intel Iris Pro 5200. The Geforce 650M only gives about a 15% performance boost from what I have seen.

Perhaps because Cook isn't Jobs...?

BS.

First, Apple stopped going to Macworld so it wouldn't be expected to release new iron every January. They release product when they feel like it, and they've demonstrated that time and again.

Second, Jobs' fingerprints are all over Apple for the next five years, starting at the time of his passing.

Look, we all miss those days. They were great. Our little company's whole world revolved around us. It seemed like they wanted to be with us every minute. New York, Paris, San Francisco, Boston; our little slugger could hardly wait for the next road trip.

And juuust as we were about to turn into the driveway, they'd pipe up, "Oh! Just one more thing...". And off we go for one more lap around the block and a last chorus of '998 mega of hertz on the chip, 998 mega of hertz! If one of those megas should happen to grow, 999 mega of hertz on the chip!'.

But time flies. They grow up. They stop bringing home mishapen Newtons and Quicktakes from art class. No Cubes or Anniversary Macs from shop class.

And then they discovered consumers.

Can't keep'm down on the farm after that. Suddenly, all we had left was San Francisco.

I will be the first to admit, she's beautiful, a real peach, but we should have seen it coming. Somebody was distracted. The signs were all there and things certainly haven't gotten better with time (Final Cut X, Apple? Really? We know. You're sorry. You'll fix it. What, those? Just PDFs from Avid. And Adobe).

Say hello to iPhone.

The shoe finally dropped. San Francisco is a really long ways. And those booths cost so much and ya know, it's all just gonna end up on the internet anyway, and, and, and... We know. If something really important comes up, you'll call.

Sure. We're good.

But, I'm going to go call the phone in the hall on my iPhone.

You know, just to be sure it's working okay.

So we don't miss your call.

tongue sticking out smiley

Wow, that's a lot of metaphors in one post, BB.

But it's all true. Apple has grown much over the years, but we haven't.

Apple has never given us all we've wanted, nor new products when we wanted them. And that's truer now more than ever. Apple is on their timetable, not ours. I don't see that changing. Ever.

These are the new good old days.
