MBP13 5,5 Trakpad Problem
Posted by: Mac-A-Matic

Okay, I hope I can explain this clearly and correctly...

It seems that the ability to click and drag on my MBP13 5,5 has suddenly gone kaput. The click bar seems to work somewhat intermittently now and the ability to click and drag is just not possible. I did use a wired USB trackball to see if it was something else but that works without any problems.

Has anyone heard of trackpad buttons failing and what I might be able to do to fix the problem? Can these be replaced? If so, where can I source the part?

Thanks!

The trackpad may need to be replaced. The clicking buttons do go bad, like any switch.

It SHOULD be this one, but double check by serial number before purchasing.

You will need a set of micro screwdrivers as well as a Trilobe driver to remove the battery. It will also take some work to get the alignment perfect and make sure to not bend the little metal clips.

Thanks! I appreciate the info! I was looking at the Amazon link but I didn't notice a reference to the MBP serial number. Any thoughts on how I can cross-reference that?

Check your battery. In some models, if the battery is bulging because it's going bad.... it presses up on the palmrest, preventing the trackpad button from being able to click.

Good Luck!

Did any water droplets hit the trackpad? Water intrusion can cause such wonkiness.
